The Electronic Detector Group has an opening for two postdoctoral research associates (two-year term) to join our research effort in developing liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) technology for neutrino physics at the intensity frontier ( This position requires a Ph.D. degree in experimental high energy or nuclear physics. The ideal candidate will work within the EDG and have broad associations with other groups in the laboratory and throughout the world to carry out his/her function. Domestic and international travel should be expected. The successful candidates who meet eligibility requirements for the Goldhaber Distinguished Fellowship Program ( will be considered for Goldhaber Fellowship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead software development for LArTPC event reconstruction (
  • Analyze data from the MicroBooNE and ProtoDUNE experiments
  • Contribute to LArTPC hardware development at BNL
  • Perform physics studies for DUNE. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • A Ph.D. in high energy or nuclear physics.
  • Strong record of recent accomplishments in experimental physics.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform research independently and as part of a research group.
  • Proficiency with common high energy physics analysis tools.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

​Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise in particle detectors, electronics, and data acquisition.
  • Knowledge of neutrino physics.
  • Strong programming skills.
  • Experience with detector simulation with Geant4.
  • Experience with pattern recognition based reconstruction.
  • Experience with advanced software and computing techniques.
