Department of Nuclear Engineering Seeks Applications for a Nuclear Instrumentation Non-Tenure/Tenure Faculty Position

The College of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a Non-Tenure or Tenure faculty position in the Department of Nuclear Engineering. This will be a 0.50 FTE UC Berkeley faculty position joint with a 0.50 FTE staff scientist position in the Nuclear Science Division of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. This search is primarily in the area of traditional nuclear instrumentation (interaction of radiation with matter, nuclear radiation detectors, nuclear electronics and data acquisition), but applications from all areas of nuclear experimental technology broadly construed will be considered. Faculty duties will include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, research, and supervision of graduate students. This position will have primary responsibility for the teaching laboratories in nuclear instrumentation, including their maintenance and enhancement. We seek candidates who have outstanding potential for scholarship, teaching, and professional service, as well as capacity to attract extramural research funding.

Berkeley Engineering is among the top three engineering schools in the United States and is the second largest college at UC Berkeley. The Department of Nuclear Engineering, established in 1958, is the only nuclear engineering program in the University of California system and is actively involved in major multi-institutional research initiatives in such areas as reactor safety and licensing, thermal hydraulics, neutronics, nuclear materials, nuclear waste management, and applied nuclear physics. The Department of Nuclear Engineering hosts a vibrant and growing community of faculty and students and enjoys a close relationship with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory. The Department has a strong tradition of interdisciplinary research and education and seeks to further develop strategic alliances with related academic units in the College of Engineering, research centers, national laboratories and industrial partners. To learn more about the Department of Nuclear Engineering please visit Basic Qualifications: Applicants must, at a minimum, be in the process of completing a doctoral dissertation or the equivalent degree at the time of applications.

Additional Qualifications: Applicants must hold a doctorate, or equivalent degree, in a relevant engineering or scientific field by the appointment date, and must have demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship in topics relevant to nuclear energy.
