Nuclear Engineering Mystery: Is it Seaborg's Plutonium?

Thursday, Jan 15th 2015

Prof. Eric (Rick) Norman's nuclear forensics work on a sample with a label claiming to be the "first plutonium sample large enough to be weighed" has been featured in an article in the Scientific American and in a blog post on the Physics Central Physics Buzz Blog.

The sample was found several years ago in a barrel headed for radioactive waste disposal. Phil Broughton of UC Berkeley's EHS rescued the sample, and Prof. Norman began studying it in Spring 2014.
