A Conversation with Dr. Adnan Shihab-Eldin
We are privileged to have Dr. Adnan Shihab-Eldin visiting the Department this Friday, October 16. Dr. Shihab-Eldin is a graduate of Berkeley, attaining his B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1965, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Nuclear Engineering Department in 1967 and 1970 respectively. He was one of Professor Stan Prussin's first doctoral students.
Since that time, he has had an extraordinary career, having served as the Acting Secretary General of OPEC, the General Director of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science, IAEA Director for Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, and Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Science and Technology, and the UNESCO Representative in Egypt, Sudan and Yemen.
He has served on the board of directors of more than 30 companies and foundations and on numerous advisory committees. He has published more than 150 scientific papers, articles and reports and co-authored five books.
Dr. Shihab-Eldin will talk to us about his career after Berkeley, as well as give us his thoughts on the progress and future of nuclear energy.
