from Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics, and Physics.
NEP currently awards PhD, MS, and Masters of Engineering (MENG) in Nuclear Engineering (NE), it also offers an
accelerated MENG in NE for the USNA, and a Graduate Certificate. An undergraduate minor in NE is under development.
NEP offers degrees at two campuses including: Blacksburg, VA, and National Capital Region (NCR) in Arlington, VA.
Virginia Tech is the only university offering degrees in Nuclear Engineering in the Washington DC Metro area. This
provides unique opportunities for NEP for forming alliance with different organizations and universities in the area; e.g.,
over past 3 years, the Program has signed a CRADA with the US Naval Academy (USNA), and established the accelerated

MENG degree for the USNA graduates. The Program operates several facilities including Multiphase Flow and Thermal-
Hydraulics Laboratory; Nuclear Materials and Nuclear Fuel Cycle; Molten Salt Loop (MSL) & High Temp Water Loops;

Radiation Measurement and Simulation Lab. It also houses the Virginia Tech Transport Theory Group (VT3G), the MARS
(Multiphysics for Advanced Reactor Simulation) multidisciplinary Center, and collaborates with the VT Center for Neutrino
Physics.
