Because of the changing nature of engineering and the newest technologies emerging from it, society is now confronted with unprecedented ethical dilemmas. We believe that because of the extremely complex nature of the issues involved, no single field of study can adequately understand the problem, much less propose a solution. Hence, we’ve invited a diverse group of scholars and practitioners to enter into a two and a half day dialogue with the intention of getting at the source of our current ethical dilemmas and discovering what it will take to successfully address them.

Our objective in this workshop is to design a research agenda for the development of a new curriculum for the education of engineers, which integrates social responsibility with technical integrity. In doing this, we trust that the insights gained also will be of practical use to those workshop participants who are not directly involved with engineering or the development of technology.
