The College of Engineering and UCB feature special activities for new and prospective students and their families.

The Department of Nuclear Engineering is hosting a series of events, lab tours and activities throughout the day.

Department of Nuclear Engineering Cal Day Events

All events held in 3117B Etcheverry Hall
  • 11 am-12 pm “Nuclear Medicine Imaging”
Prof. Jasmina Vujic demonstrates how students use gamma cameras to scan for tumors
  • 12-1 pm “Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions with
Nuclear Hydrogen” Prof. Jasmina Vujic discusses new technologies for producing hydrogen using nuclear energy, to substitute for natural gas and oil in industry and transportation applications.
  • 1-2 pm “Understanding Materials: A Look Inside” Prof. Brian Wirth shows how computer simulations provide a powerful tool for understanding the microstructure of materials, how that structure changes in extreme environments (such as nuclear power systems) and how structure controls materials properties.
  • INFORMATION SESSION & LAB TOUR
2-3 PM begins in 3117B Etcheverry Hall
STUDENT PROJECT DISPLAYS
  • 10 am – 3 pm Trefethen Terrace
  • Back-yard Nuclear Reactor, Mousetrap Fission Chain Reaction Model, Radioactive Fiestaware (w/ Geiger counter)
