Teaching and Research

Professor Norman has performed research in homeland security, neutrino physics, and nuclear astrophysics.  He is the co-discover of 4 isotopes. He is currently teaching NE101, “Nuclear Reactions and Radiation”.

Specific ongoing research projects include the following:

  • Developing active neutron-based interrogation system to screen sea-going cargo containers for fissionable material.

  • Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events (CUORE) – a planned large-scale bolometric detector designed to search for the neutrinoless double beta decay of 130Te.

  • Measurements of neutron and charged-particle induced  reaction cross sections for homeland security, nuclear astrophysics, and neutrino physics.
