Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Badruzzaman specializes in subsurface application of nuclear
technology and application of Monte Carlo techniques to develop
advanced interpretation of subsurface nuclear devices. His research
has included development of three-dimensional and time-dependent
nodal discrete ordinates methods, design of advanced nuclear sondes,
inertial confinement fusion modeling, and nuclear fuel design for
extended burn-up.
He has published numerous papers, holds a US
patent on an advanced density-through-casing measurement concept,
and has given invited presentations worldwide on his research.
He has served on a doctoral dissertation committee at Claremont
Graduate School, CA, where is on the Board of Visitors of the
School of Mathematics, and at Texas A&M University, College
Station, TX., where he was an Adjunct Professor during 1994-97.
Dr. Badruzzaman is currently a Staff Research
Scientist at ChevronTexaco Energy Technology Co., where he leads
the R&D effort to assess
and utilize advanced nuclear logging technologies in the corporation’s
operations worldwide. He had previously led R&D projects at
Sandia National Laboratories, New Mexico, Schlumberger-Doll Research,
Connecticut, and Babcock & Wilcox Co., Virginia. He was a Lecturer
in Physics at the University of Dhaka, 1970-73.
Dr. Badruzzaman is a member of the Society
of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the American Nuclear Society (ANS),
and Society of Professional Well Log Analysts (SPWLA). In the
SPE he has served as the Chairperson of a 1999 SPE North America
Forum, a technical editor of the SPE journal on formation evaluation,
and a member of several SPE technical program committees. He
was a special editor of SPWLA technical journal, Petrophysics,
for its June 2005 special issue on nuclear logging and he currently
serves on the SPWLA Technology Committee. He was the Chairman
of the ANS Mathematics & Computation Division’s
Computational Problems Benchmark Committee from 1987-97 and a member
of the Joint Benchmark Committee of several divisions till 2003.
He is the Coordinator of Oil Industry Special Interest Group on
Nuclear Logging R&D and the consortium on Nuclear Modeling
Technology. He recently acted as a consultant to an Advisory Committee
of the EPA panel on radioactive sources.
An advocate of technology transfer, Dr. Badruzzaman
is coordinator of Bangla Oil/Gas Discussion Group that helped
establish a Section of the SPE in their native Bangladesh in
early 2000. He has organized sessions and spoken on energy related
issues in developing countries. In 2005, he was invited by the
World Bank for consultation on Country Assistance Strategy for
Bangladesh. He Chairs Bangladesh Environmental Network’s
Energy Panel.
