GlobalSolutions.org is seeking research associates for its substantive and challenging internship program on Capitol Hill. Our intern program provides a unique opportunity to help build our national movement that promotes a responsible and cooperative role for the U.S. in the world, while learning first-hand about non-profit management and advocacy.

GlobalSolutions.org is a national membership movement for globally minded Americans who want to promote a responsible and cooperative U.S. foreign policy and sustainable, systemic solutions to global challenges. Our agenda includes confronting costly wars, mass atrocities, destructive climate change, dehumanizing globalization and the spread of nuclear weapons.

Length and Compensation:

  • Our internship terms run from January thru May (spring), June through August (summer), and September through December (fall). Applications are accepted for each position until filled.
  • Associates must be available to work at least 20 hours per week but preference will be given to those available to work full time, Monday-Friday, 9:30 am- 5:30pm.
  • Associates are provided with a travel stipend of $15 per day, paid bi-weekly.

Positions:

We are seeking interns with interest in the following roles:

Campaigns & Communications Associate:

  • Work with the Campaigns Manager to develop advocacy emails, fact sheets, web content, and guest blog posts
  • Assist in managing social media profiles and scheduling content
  • Work with Campaigns Manager to develop and maintain campaign calendar and tasks
  • Explore growth and outreach opportunities in our membership base
  • Identify and engage new audiences beyond our current constituency Assist in building organizational capacity to engage our supporters

Executive & Government Relations Associate:

  • Accompany the CEO and other staff at meetings with Congressional aides
  • Assist the CEO with planning, travel logistics and other tasks
  • Attend hearings and provide detailed summaries, occasionally live via social media
  • Analyze the voting patterns of Congress on international issues
  • Follow election campaigns and communicate with candidate election committees

Graphic Design Associate:

  • Design and develop sharable images and graphics for the GlobalSolutions.org website, social media profiles and campaign materials (Photoshop skills required)

Development Associate:

  • Work with the Development Fellow and CEO to support online and offline fundraising appeals
  • Research and coordinate funding requests and reports to foundations

Responsibilities for each position will occasionally overlap as needs require. Good teamwork skills is essential in a successful associate.

Qualifications:

All applicants should have excellent written and spoken English skills, and strong computer skills (including Microsoft Office applications and social media) and good interpersonal, organizational and time management skills. Associates will occasionally represent GlobalSolutions.org outside the office, so good interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor are essential.

As a GlobalSolutions.org associate, one can expect to gain the following experiences which extend beyond daily responsibilities:

  • Participation at meetings with partner organizations that focus on a variety of current issues within the international affairs and campaigns fields

  • More focused awareness of global challenges and their interconnectedness

GLOBAL CITIZEN BLOGGER

Global Solutions.org is a groundbreaking national online movement for Americans who want the United States to take a responsible and cooperative role in the world. We envision a future in which nations work together to abolish war, protect our rights and freedoms, and solve problems facing humanity that no nation can solve alone. GlobalSolutions.org role is to empower members to articulate and act on this vision. Our goal is to build by the end of this decade a member base of millions of Americans who will speak with one voice on issues that they have determined to be of vital importance.

We are seeking Bloggers to contribute timely analysis to our popular blog, The Global Citizen. Bloggers will write a minimum of two posts / month, with the support of the Globalsolutions.org staff. Ultimately, Bloggers will help us drive forward the conversation around the US' role in building a more responsible and cooperative world.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Writing at least two blog posts / month, and loading them on the GlobalSolutions.org website.
  • Working with GlobalSolutions.org staff and volunteers to identify timely and interesting blog content.
  • Drafting Facebook and Twitter content drawing off of your blog posts, to share through the GlobalSolutions.org social media platforms.

The Details:

This is a virtual, volunteer position. Bloggers will contribute approximately 5 hours/month for 6 months. In exchange, they will get training and support from the Globalsolutions.org staff, and the chance to share their views with an active online community of concerned global citizens.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

This is an exciting position for a confident writer who wants to lead conversations around the US role in the world. Bloggers don't need to be experts on these issues; rather they should represent the voice of concerned, engaged Americans who follow the news and care about global cooperation. The biggest thing we're looking for are people who are excited, want to learn, believe in our mission, and can make this commitment.

SOCIAL MEDIA TEAM MEMBER

GlobalSolutions.org role is to empower members to articulate and act on this vision. Our goal is to build by the end of this decade a member base of millions of Americans who will speak with one voice on issues that they have determined to be of vital importance.

We are seeking Social Media Team Members to help drive our presence on Facebook and Twitter. Team Members will identify storylines, develop posts and cultivate conversations. Ultimately, the Social Media Team will help us drive forward the conversation around the US' role in building a more responsible and cooperative world.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Working with Globalsolutions.org staff to identify timely, interesting story lines.
  • Finding interesting content on the internet for GlobalSolutions.org to repost or turn into original content
  • Developing content, ranging from tweets to Facebook memes, in collaboration with Globalsolutions.org staff.
  • Monitoring and cultivating our Facebook and Twitter pages; reaching out to new audiences, encouraging conversation, responding to traffic, etc.

The Details:

This is a virtual, volunteer position. Social Media Team Members will contribute approximately 2 hours/week for 6 months. In exchange, they will get training and support from the Globalsolutions.org staff, and the chance to help build an active online community of global citizens.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

This is an exciting position for an individual who is comfortable using Facebook and Twitter, and/or eager to learn. Team members don't need to be experts on these issues; rather they should represent the voice of concerned, engaged Americans who follow the news and care about global cooperation. The biggest thing we're looking for are people who are excited, want to learn, believe in our mission, and can make this commitment.

CAMPUS REPRESENTATIVES

We envision a future in which nations work together to abolish war, protect our rights and freedoms, and solve problems facing humanity that no nation can solve alone. GlobalSolutions.org role is to empower members to articulate and act on this vision. Our goal is to build by the end of this decade a member base of millions of Americans who will speak with one voice on issues that they have determined to be of vital importance.

We are seeking Campus Representatives to represent our community at the local level. Campus Reps will build relationships, share our work, and represent our national campaigns in their community. Ultimately, Campus Reps will help us drive forward the conversation around the US' role in building a more responsible and cooperative world.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Working with Globalsolutions.org staff to identify relevant events and actions for your campus.
  • Leading campus campaigns and activities. This might include bringing one of our popular national campaigns to your campus, getting signatures for our petitions, signing people up for the GlobalSolutions.org listserv, fundraising, liaising with other groups to organize events, and recruiting supporters to help get the word out.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with like-minded groups and individuals, with the broader objective of building our network.

The Details:

This is a virtual, volunteer position. Campus Reps will contribute approximately 10 hours/month for 6 months, and in return will gain valuable leadership, organizing and campaign skills. This is an exciting opportunity to get concrete, valuable experience working on global issues.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

This is an exciting position for an individual who is comfortable leading groups, implementing campaigns and building relationships. Campus Reps don't need experience doing any of the above; rather the biggest thing we're looking for are people who are excited, want to learn, believe in our mission, and can make this commitment.
