Rainwater sample
Hello BRAWM team, Did you get a sample of rainwater from Jan/Feb 2012 and analyze that? Curious to see if we still see fission products in the rain.
thanks

Sample was collected and tested; results posted now
We were able to collect enough rain to measure with our detector, and I have just posted the results on our Rainwater page. No fission products were seen above MDA.

There haven't been detectable
There haven't been detectable levels of radioisotopes from Fukushima in our rain since April 20 (our last rain test was in November), and I wouldn't expect there to be anything now. Our rain testing data is in this table.
It has been a dry winter, so our ability to sample has been limited. It did rain yesterday so I will check if our rooftop collector has enough rain to test.

Rainy Season: We need more results for rainwater, soil, food
Down here in SoCal, we've had a few good rains now, I assume up north it has rained as well. Yes, we need rainwater testing. We also need updated testing of soil & food items. The last testing of food or soil I can find anywhere on the internet is back in August.
We need robust testing of a wide variety of samples in order to have confidence in the results. Where is the data??? What obstacles are there for further testing?
There have been reports in Japan that levels of cesium are rising again for unknown reasons, perhaps the ongoing incinerating of radioactive debris. As such, it is necessary that ongoing testing and monitoring are necessary to protect humans from harm.
Thanks,
JB
It would be a relief for me
It would be a relief for me to see a more recent sample...especially since some of us have little kids who love to play in the rain, jump in puddles and RUN to the playground after a few days of being cooped up inside from rainy weather...knowing that radioisotopes DID show up last year in the rain and that there is some uncertainty as to whether or not there have been new releases since the spring/summer...the peace of mind would be welcome, even more so if we end up with a crazy wet spring rainy season like we had last year.
Hope you'll be able to collect/test a sample soon! I know I'm not the only mom still lurking here who would be immensely grateful to see those results.

Yes I am another mom checking
Yes I am another mom checking data here regularly and I'd love to see rainwater results. Thank you!
me too!
i also have a 5 year-old and a 5-month-old...we're still avoiding certain foods, and limiting milk due to recent continued contamination findings. ugh.
Rain water sample
Hi Mark, Were you able to collect enough rain to test? Appreciate if berkeley can provide the measurement on rainwater, especially since radiationnetwork is reporting spike in CPM from time to time. The last spike was reported in Jan in New Mexico area. Wondering if the fission particles from Fukushima are still in the jet stream. If there is, surely rain would be a good measure. thanks
