Type of Milk Tested

BRAWM team - what type of milk are you testing? Whole, 2%, 1%, fat free?

I don't recall ever seeing the type stated. I am curious and also to know if it makes a difference in isotope quantities. Would cesium levels be higher, lower, or the same, depending on the fat content?

My understanding is that

My understanding is that previous work established that lower fat milk is a higher risk. And good news for butter lovers, because the fat in the milk doesn't store as much, butter has reduced amounts.

I would have thought it went the other way, but there you go.

Whole milk

We have been testing whole milk. However, we did test at least one sample of 1% milk in mid-April and it showed levels of I-131, Cs-134, and Cs-137 that were consistent with a whole milk sample from the same date. So the fat content might not affect the isotope levels that much. I should caution that that was only one sample, and we did not do a systematic study of the isotope content between different types of milk.

Bioaccumulation

Hi Mark. Thanks for answering my question.

Is the milk being tested Organic?

Hi Mark,

Is the milk being tested Organic or non-Organic ? Has there been any consistency/difference in these 2 types of milk?
