Rain during plumes

For weeks after the nuclear disaster it POURED rain day and night here in Orange County. I'm afraid we are living in a hotspot - no doubt.

Was there heavy rains everywhere in the USA or just over my head????

I ask because I would like to move to an area where there wasn't rain during the heavy plumes.

This has been my great

This has been my great frustration. In southern california we actually got MORE rain than the pacific northwest and Boise during that 2-3 week period following the meltdown. Yet, no one tested our rain. EPA only tested drinking water. No one tested our soil. We have no way of knowing how bad it is here. If you get your soil tested, please share the results!

I don't know if this will

I don't know if this will make you feel better or worse, but from about 1960 to 1963, and at some times before, every damned time it rained the water was as bad or likely worse. For example, the LA area received a total cesium deposition of between 1000-2000 bq/m2 of Cs-137 during the atomic testing era. Those big bombs in the Pacific and Russia really whipped a lot of junk into the air...

I did the math myself on what Berkeley got by using rainfall figures and the BRAWM team's measurements of the isotopes, and found that their location received about 34bq/m2 of Cs-137 during the Fukushima fallout (and another ~30bq/m2 in Cs-134). This is a pretty small amount compared to the numbers above...

Why don't you have your soil

Why don't you have your soil tested? It will give you an idea how much nukey-poo you got at your location.

I did, and found out that the Fukushima fallout is about 1/7th of the cesium at my location, the rest is from the testing era. Did this make me happy? No. Did it give me perspective? Yes.

We are all in need of perspective, IMHO.

Yes, get the soil tested.

Yes, get the soil tested. Where do we send it to and who is trustworthy?

I used these guys- "The lab

I used these guys-

"The lab is EMSL. Contact is Garrett Ray - gray@EMSL.com."

Please see the two collective sampling effort threads for more info. I was satisfied with the lab. Cost is $250.

Further questions on the process, post them here, I will do my best to answer.

Yes, let's get more soil

Yes, let's get more soil tested and report results here! Still waiting for first test results in British Columbia. Lab is Saskatchewan Research Council (google for more info). Cost is under $200 Cdn per sample.

Does anyone know how to get the info. to see how much rain was deposited during mid to late March in a given region?

Great resource, thanks! But

Great resource, thanks! But doesn't seem to have precip amounts for Canada. Anyone know where to find historical precip data for Canada? Thx!
