Home filter system

I currently have a water softening system on my home in Orange County California but think it would be wise to get it converted to something that would filter out radioactive particles. Must I buy a new system or is it possible to convert it by using charcoal or zeolites? Anyone done this????

I wouldn't bother

Does your water company send you the results of the tests that they are required to perform? Look at the report and see if you are getting any radionuclides.

The environmental radionuclides are either tritiated water ( which your filter won't remove because it is water, or are radioactive gases that are dissolved in the water.

Either way, you aren't going to be able to separate this out with any technology you could use in the home.

The report states Alpha and

The report states Alpha and Beta particles and it was done last year.

Don't worry

Given that the BRAWM team hasn't found any great amount of contamination, your water is probably safe. If your test was done last year, then there will be another one coming this year that you can compare to it. If you don't see any great up-tick in radioactivity, which you probably won't given BRAWM's measurements, then you are probably OK.
