Hi Tim, It's me Sofia who visited in May about testing fish
Hi Tim,
I have been waiting to see the result of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's pacific ocean sample analysis but they have not announced anything yet. I spoke with the chief scientist there few weeks ago and he said that their study is to find out the long term consequence to the marine life in general than to find out whether this fish or that seafood is safe to eat.
So I would like to revisit what we discussed few months back - to bring in 3-4 lbs. of fish to be tested. There is a great possibility that some locally caught but migrating fish may be contaminated, such as wild salmon and tuna, and I would be happy to purchase samples and bring them to you for testing if that is still welcome.
Japanese government's safety level for seafood is whooping 500 becquerel per kg., and FDA does not say what their level of safety is on their website. And apparently they just have the workers walk around with hand-held radiation detectors at the port to see any shipment causes the device to show anything more than the background level. That does not seem at all effective to detect radiation level in food or any product for that matter!
Please let me know via this forum whether you would test seafood/fish if I bring them in. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Sofia O.
