Mark & Team BRAWM: Rain Gutter Runoff in the East Bay

One of the rain gutter spouts on my home empties directly onto the ground where our water pipe enters the house. This particular rain gutter spout carries a "heavy load" of water from the roof. Usually, during the rainy months, we attach an extension so the water exits into a planter. This past spring, the extension WAS NOT in place so all this roof water poured down and around our water pipe. The water pipe is copper and runs from the water main to our house. There is probably a heavy concentration of Cs-134 & Cs-137 surrounding our water pipe from all the rain this past spring.

Is it possible for the Cesium to penetrate into the pipe itself...or into the water...or will the Cesium just remain surrounding the water pipe???

I've been thinking about is for a while now...time to ask for some answers.

In general, these nuclides

In general, these nuclides should not seep into your water supply through closed system piping.
