please give us an update on results of monitoring

Hello BRAWM team,

Would you please provide us reassurance with some recent
test results. Your last results were posted in June. Now
that Japan is going to burn their nuclear waste, it would
be very important to know what the ongoing effects are.

Thank you kindly,

Dana from Marin County

We are still monitoring, but not air

Dear Dana,

Our air samples were discontinued on July 1 because by then we had had a solid month of non-detections of all fission products from Fukushima. We tracked the concentration of radioactive fallout in the air from the peak levels in late March all the way down to about one thousandth (1/1,000) of the peak levels. Our tests have shown that the levels stayed below about 1/1000 of the peak levels for the entire month of June. There have been no further releases of sufficient magnitude for us to continue our air filter testing.

If there are any further releases of significant amounts of radiation in the air, detectors in Japan would be able to measure the levels well before we could here on the West Coast, and organizations like the CTBTO and EPA would also be able to corroborate those measurements. There have been no reports of releases that are large enough for anything to appear on the West Coast.

I hope this gives some reassurance to you. We will not continue our air testing at this time, for the reasons above. Please let us know if you have further questions.
