Is it possible that we are receiving much higher levels of radioactive fallout from Japan due to recent event of ground fissures opeining up near reactors and extreme radioactive steam venting from ground into the atmosphere? Please view the link above and comment on your best guess.

It from natural radon gas (radon washout)

You should read this article: "Intense gamma radiation from radon progeny accreted in/on rain during and following thunderstorms"

Apparently, thunderstorms concentrate radon gas because the atoms are positively charged and are attracted to electrically charged thunderclouds. There is also 214Bistmuth and 214Lead in the rain, they are daughter products of radon decay.

The radiation is completely natural and it decays away after a few hours, the isotopes have short have-lives. It deserves more research, as there are risks to people who drink fresh rain water.

It's really fascinating, I never knew rainwater could be so radioactive because of natural radon gas!
