Toxic smell in San Diego County today....

Hey,

I was out today and smelled something really awful smelled like exhaust or jet fuel. I noticed all around town in the places I went today. After realizing I was smelling it in such a large area, I called my boyfriend some 25 miles across town, and inland he smelled it too. Now there are people reporting the smell to the fire dept and local officials.

What is the smell ?

I wonder if it could be from Fukushima ? Or the Encino power plant in Carlsbad CA ?

Is it radioactive sulphur ?

What do you think ? It is being reported in a very large area, coastal and inland alike.

I live one block from the ocean in Encinitas, CA.

thnx good read on the sulfur....

I guess that is not causing the smell.

That spiked in March.

Q. Is the smell a burn cloud from Japan, and I saw this black fog too ?

A scientific paper well researched definitely a must read.

Mystery Odor In San Diego County May Remain A Mystery
First Test Results ‘Inconclusive’

http://www.kpbs.org/news/2011/aug/18/mystery-odor-san-diego-county-may-r...

"The first test run which was for hydrocarbons proved inconclusive," said Adams. "There were no outstanding peaks of any particular compound that raised our concern." He said the source of the odor hasn't been determined.

"The second compound that we're analyzing for is for toxic compounds," said Adams. "That testing is on-going and we hope to have results by Friday."

Don't know if this has any

Don't know if this has any relevance, but it looks like the Beta counts spiked in San Diego on the 17th of August. See the real time counts here:

Hey thanks for bringing yet

Hey thanks for bringing yet ANOTHER huge spike to our attention. I did not even think to check Radnet when all this drama was going on. I'm sick of this ##!t.

I am in Las Vegas and just

I am in Las Vegas and just noticed this sort of smell a couple hours ago. I own an acre and my entire property has a pretty even weird chemical smell I have never encountered before. WHAT IS GOING ON?

OP, we're about a half hour

OP, we're about a half hour north and a little inland from you. There's a kind of sickening sweet odor all over the neighborhood. I walked all around our home and block to verify. Neighbors don't seem concerned when I broached the topic. Chalked it up to garbage, yet our neighborhood had all the garbage picked up this morning, and it's very cool here, so no "percolating" trash anyway.
Overhead, there were those #%#! white streaks gridded across the sky. Did some research on them last night - various communities have been testing them (NoCal/Mt. Shasta and FL/Alachua to name 2) and they are apparently loaded with aluminum and barium. I am not familiar with an odor associated with this phenomena however.
SoCal used to be such a great place to live but now, no more full spectrum sun, as well as plenty of radiation concerns.

op here

Hey thanks for the note. If you are 1/2 from me, then you are at least one hour from Poway where my boyfriend smells it.

This is a huge area ! Especially since the air should dilute such odors.

What do you suppose it is ?

Were prob. gonna get some lame explanation, from main stream media covering the real source.

You are right, my friend. A

You are right, my friend. A pretty wide range of territory. I wish I had an inkling of cause.
We did smell the same odor a few months ago in our area. There was even a thread on this forum about it, if I'm not mistaken, because others in SoCal / LA area smelled it also and started a topic. Interesting.
I just wish the nausea would go away.

king

I'm so glad I noticed this post. The smell was literally making me nauseous, then headache. I saw this and googled and found various news stories. In the comments section of one news story, a nurse posted that the ER's are backed up with people - symptoms: vomiting, dizziness, breathing problems, nausea, headaches, everyone complaining about the odor. You can't chalk it ALL up to mass hysteria (maybe some) - I was sick w/same symptoms hours before I even knew there was a problem.

same thing

i could smell this since lunch time today around 1:30PM and people didnt seemed bothered by it, and now I'm still smelling it wondering what the heck it is. If you hear anything more about plz let me know.

Thx, Shawn

Smell in SD

I smelled it in Carlsbad at 3, San Marcos at 5. Still smell it now. News reports say they're investigating.

op here

Yeah it is a very widespread area.

I still smell it here, where I live the air is coming right off the ocean. So I kinda wonder about that ? Could it be Fukushima ? My boyfriend smells it in Poway.

Still unknown but read the comments section scary. A lady whose husband is a marine they think terrorism.

Who knows....?

op here update..

Just went to the store, tried to see the sky for clues. I see very thick black fog around my house and over the ocean it is a very heavy fog close to the ground.

I still smell the odor.

I vaguely remember smelling this yesterday while driving home, I thought to myself some car ahead of me needs a smog check up.

I am surprised it is being smelled in Las Vegas too thanks for the post....

Don't panic were gonna to the bottom of this....
