Are you eating blueberries?
I'm very tempted to buy blueberries. The antioxidant in the berries are good for treating radiation but more prone to radiation contamination. Are you avoiding them? I wouldn't worry too much but I have little ones to feed.
I'm in westcoast Canada- BC.

I am avoiding blueberries
I am avoiding blueberries and other North American fruit. Berries are big accumulators as you know. Try to buy old frozen ones.
I have Granny Smith and another (Royal Gala?) apples from South Africa and Peru.
From the Southern Hemi right now I also have oranges, grapefruit, avocados, pineapple, and tangerines. I love fruits, can you tell? But I will not sacrifice safety.
Does this mean once the
Does this mean once the frozen supply runs out we will never be able to have blueberries, raspberries and other berries again. :(
I've wondered the same...

============================
I've wondered the same as I watch people scurry all over the place to get food that was grown before the Fukushima accident. Eventually, that food is going to run out or go bad, and eventually everyone will be eating post-Fukushima food.
I wonder if people are going to give up eating food if they can't get radioactivity-free food.
Actually, there's no such thing as "radioactivity-free food". We've all been eating food with radioactivity, many just didn't know it. It has nothing to do with nuclear power and nuclear weapons. The ancient Egyptians were eating radioactive food; which is why we can use Carbon-14 dating to determine their age, as any school child knows.
Mother Nature is our single largest source of radiation exposure.
Radiation
What above poster fails to mention that diffrent radionuclides. Have diffrent effects on humans .example radio iodine effects your thyroid strontium bones ect ect
Be a part of the solution
Since you seem to know so much about Mother Nature's radiation, you should go to Japan and educate the mothers how to get all the radioactive MOX fuel that detonated out of the man-made nuclear reator #2, and which continues to spew out of reactors 1, 3 and 4 into the jetstream and all over Japan.
Since the school children already know about carbon-14, please you go,eat their food and teach them how to get radioactive Strontium 90, Uranium, Plutonium, Cs 134, Cs 137, & all the other radioactive materials from MOX out of their food, plants, playground, growing bones and tissues.
These reactors have no containments anymore and just today, they announced that the meltdown fuel pools have been "partially" been reaching re-criticality. (That's like saying don't worry Mom I'm only "partially" pregnant) If there is Xe 133 and 135 gas and Krypton85, then there is nuclear fission. http://enenews.com/just-in-krypton-85-up-over-14000-in-a-day-at-reactor-...
Mothers are going to do everything they can to protect their children.
So if we want to help each other to minimize the bioaccumulation of all the radioactive contamination in our foods, we will do so. Article from Japan "Minamisoma local government has finally published the result of WBC for 2,884 elementary and junior high school students.
They announced ONLY 274 of them had cesium-137, but the results about cesium-134 is concealed. According to their "trustworthy" report, only 9 students had more than 20 Bq/kg, but data about cesium-134 is concealed.
The worst case was the 8 years old girl. She had:
•Cesium-134: 1,192 Bq
•Cesium-137: 1,723 Bq
•Total: 2,915 Bq
No wonder they did not check other radioactive material, such as strontium or plutonium http://fukushima-diary.com"
Your statement"It has nothing to do with nuclear power and nuclear weapons" shows that either you are a troll or you think we are stupid for trying to limit radiation in our food.
You breath and eat the same food as the rest of us.
If you are a troll, drink lots of CA milk, but don't worry it's only "partially" radioactive.
I'm not a troll; I'm a scientist.

==========================================
I'm not a troll, I'm a scientist; and I stand behind the statement quoted above.
I'm not stupid at all. The stupid / ignorant people are the ones that don't understand that Mother Nature is exposing us to a lot more radiation and radioactivity than what is released due to the use of nuclear power.
Courtesy of the University of Michigan:
http://www.umich.edu/~radinfo/introduction/radrus.htm
shows that the amount of radiation dose due to the use of nuclear power [ "nuclear fuel cycle" in the table] is only <0.03% of a person's average annual dose of radiation. The atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons ( no longer done ) in the '50s and early '60s; [ "fallout" in the table ] accounts for another <0.03%.
By a factor of >1500, Mother Nature is a much larger source of radiation dose than the sum total of nuclear power and nuclear weapons fallout.
These are scientific facts.
There's no question about these facts, they are not in dispute. You either accept the truth as revealed by science, or you remain stupid and ignorant.
It's so trite for the anti-nukes to call someone a troll when they don't like the scientific facts. Do you consider the University of Michigan to also be a troll? Or how about the University of California and the BRAWM team? Are they "trolls" for telling us the truth about the levels of fallout from Fukushima that they measure?
I don't care if you are a mother; being a mother doesn't give you any special competence when it comes to scientific facts.
Yes - I breathe the same air and eat the same food as the rest of you. I know it's radioactive. Unlike the anti-nukes, I also know that that is nothing new. As I explained before, I know that the ancient Egyptians were eating radioactive food. We measure the remnants of this radioactivity when we do Carbon-14 dating.
There's radioactivity in the alcohol you drink; in fact the US Government requires that alcoholic beverages be radioactive. That ensures us that they were made from recently grown plant material, and not made from old alcohol from petroleum. If you want to educate yourself, please read "The Instant Physicist" by Professor Richard Muller of the UCB Physics Dept. Go to the Amazon page for this book and click on the "Look Inside" free sample. You can read the pages that describe the above, namely, that the US Government requires alcohol to be radioactive in order to be legally sold.
Get off you ignorant, self-righteous, "high horse" and learn some science, you "mother".
Name calling from a scientist / telling
Your a scientist ( in doubt) not a health expert .
AMEN! I like this guy!

Almost forgot my south
Almost forgot my south american bananas :)
I have also been tempted to
I have also been tempted to buy blueberries but haven't. My kiddos keep asking me for fresh blueberries. :(
I bought some pre-fukushima frozen blueberries back in March. I loaded up on them and raspberries. Walmart sells blueberries from Mexico which may be safer but they may also be loaded with pesticides.
What are you buying for apples? Are the current BC apples still safe as most of them are from last year? I have only been buying organic apples from New Zealand since March. I have a backyard apple tree loaded with apples though that I may have to throw away. Who knows if they are safe?
I am from Alberta so we are neighbours. :)
Yes/ link is super info on berries cesium uptake
In fact I am By the handfuls although I believe they are likely to have traces of Fukushima in them probably won't harm me to bad we will see in 30 years ...

Natural ways to reduce radiation load in your body
These are some simple ways for everyone to reduce exposure and radiation load:
• Introduce more chlorophyll-rich foods into your diet, such as seaweed, kelp, blue-green algae, spirulina, and chlorella. These plants contain rich minerals, including iodine, that bind up the receptors site in your thyroid so that any radioactive iodine that you end up being exposed to will be unable to harm your thyroid. These foods also contain potent antioxidants, like selenium, that prevent destructive free radical activity and cancerous growth, as well as chelating agents that bind to toxins and eliminate them from your body.
• Eat antioxidant-rich foods of every color, especially cherries, blueberries, pomegranates, yams, and sweet potatoes. The variety of antioxidants found in these foods help your body to mop up free radicals and toxins.
• Drink six to eight 8-ounce glasses of filtered water every day to flush and hydrate your system.
• Consider taking vitamin C, E, and D to assist antioxidant actions within your body. Also, alpha lipoic acid is a nutrient that protects cells from radiation damage.
• Herbs like dandelion, peppermint, and chrysanthemum help the body detoxify.
• Undergoing a medically supervised detox program like the Tao of Wellness Detox Retreat can support your body's cleansing function.
I hope this article helps to clarify radiation's impact on your health and that you will use the information to live long, live strong and live happy.
