While we are all in the same

While we are all in the same room together, can we have a discussion about Yahoo's new Radiation Network? This seems like a realization of the very thing we've all been trying to manifest. I'm surprised there hasn't been any dialogue in regards to the story I posted earlier. Here is the website: http://radiation.yahoo.co.jp.

Well ... actually

;)

Actually, I posted this little blurb, but it was posted anonymous.

There was no personal contribution, so I did not sign my name.

Yeah, but anonynmous's

Yeah, but anonynmous's signal to noise ratio is poor.

Sometimes anonymous is the

Sometimes anonymous is the voice of a mom looking for answers, or someone getting a nuclear education. Quite often it's the educated voice of experience from people that work in radiation related occupations that could loose there jobs for speaking up. It seems that when a post of significant importance is posted that this forum comes under cyber attack with spam from industry insiders with an agenda. Often those who post important content come under personal attack and leave this forum, which is another reason why some post as anonymous.
Every post should be respected as part of this very important dialog that should have been addressed decades ago.

If I would have known I was

If I would have known I was going to be major player on said scene, I would have chosen "Cowboy Dan" for my handle.

Hindsight.

Bingo! Here's to all you

Bingo! Here's to all you White Hat Armchair Physicists. I think I'll go ahead and take that moniker for my own since you've already settled on BC. Keep carrying the torch friends!

LOL :-D

Though I am flattered at the newly-bestowed moniker, I certainly don't pretend to be a "major" anything here. ;-D LOL. I'm just a concerned mom, appreciative of living in a democratic society where all of our various viewpoints are allowed to be voiced in online forums such as this one. I am learning a lot, not just about "All things nuclear", but about communication dynamics in a "virtual world" environment. For those who remain respectful of others, despite diverse opinions, it is wonderful to see, as we truly are the role models our children are emulating. :-) Thanks again to our gracious hosts for providing such a forum.

I don't know, Seattle Mom.

I don't know, Seattle Mom. On the old Far West your gun's been smoking quite a bit of late. Reckon you hit some of those hot shot irradiating cowboys and cowgirls down dead. Nice, deadly quick draw you have! Better watch your backs... Glad you're our partner, Seattle Mom.

Peace in our time

I am of the mindset that the effectiveness of our communication is in inverse proportion to how aggressive the tone of our posts are perceived. I also am not inclined to think our discussions in this forum will sway opinions of those who have their own deep-seated views of nuclear power issues.

As such, if we adopt a confrontational, aggressive stance, we may feel better getting our anger at injustices, lies, deception "off our chest", but other than that (and helping to provide educational information to those who are just gaining "nuclear awareness"), I don't believe anyone here" wins" anything.

Being more of a peace-loving person, I am not sure promoting the Wild West analogy is worthwhile here. I believe our world is far too violent (witness London and other cities at the moment). In fact, I propose we suggest to anyone wishing to play out their childhood war game fantasies move to another planet far outside our solar system, where they can live out their violent tendencies to their heart's content, and leave our beautiful planet Earth as a peaceful legacy for our children and future generations to enjoy.

Just saying'... ;-)

Speak softly

;)

Speak softly and carry a big stick.

Actually, I was thinking

Actually, I was thinking more of Ralphie, the little kid in "A Christmas Story", who is daydreaming that with his new air rifle, he is single handedly shooting off all the villain robber cowboys attacking his house. In the end of his fantasy, Ralphie's mother runs up to him and hugs him, telling Ralphie that he has saved the family. That Ralphie is her hero. Dreaming in good fun...

A conciliator, I am too. Peace is important, as is the truth. Plus a little fun, played fairly.

Comic relief is a good thing ;-)

I agree, Angusmerlin. :-) I think we could all benefit from levity and comic relief these days.

It is also good to remember we are all on this planet together, so we might as well put our time on this Earth to good use, and try to find the good and our shared humanity in our fellow man and woman.

If we reach out to offer our help with an open heart and a compassionate ear, we may find better, more easily forthcoming solutions to our shared problems. All we ask is for in return is truthfulness, integrity and mutual respect. Trust must be restored, and full transparency with citizen oversight will do much to help restore faith in those we have entrusted (whether consciously or not) with our lives.

Just my two cents. ;-)
