Why Has The BRAWM Forum Removed The Ability To Comment On SOME Older Posts?

Such as this post from March 25, which was never answered:

http://www.nuc.berkeley.edu/node/1954

"Thanks, any chance of vegetable contamination due to contaminated rain water?"

Or this post which was an early on challenge to the scientific validity of the 'Airplane Analogy':

http://www.nuc.berkeley.edu/node/2151

Why has BRAWM's Forum locked these posts out for comments/discussion?

That is a very good idea.

Avoiding spam

I have been locking some older threads to avoid spam. Often when this forum is spammed, the spamming happens on old threads that have been spammed previously. If a spammed thread is older than about two months, and if the discussion came to a conclusion or moved on to other more recent threads, than I usually decide to lock the thread. I do not censor any topics. The locking of old spammed threads has greatly decreased the rate of spam, and (I think) has kept the forum less confusing since old topics aren't reshuffled to the top of the pile.

Both of those threads were spammed in July, but the first one had posts only until 3/25 and the second one until 3/29.

Reasonable. Thanks!

Reasonable. Thanks!

good idea

Mark,

This is a great idea. In addition to hopefully cutting back on the spam, it can be tedious to work through those old topics in search of the latest post.

If someone wants to "resurrect" the topic, it is easy enough to copy a relevant portion to a new thread, and then add new knowledge.
