Reference: Radiation Counter-Measure Drug Stockpile
Our family lives near a nuclear power plant. We have monitored the events in Fukushima Japan with some interest. The disaster response of the Japanese government has clearly been too little and too late. The Japanese public on Honshu Island was not informed of the deterioration in nuclear containment. The evacuation radius was grossly inadequate for Japanese citizens and only marginal for U.S. citizens. Decontamination procedures, exposure dosage testing and medical treatment have been poor, to nonexistent. There are credible reports of Acute Radiation Syndrome (ARS), far outside the evacuation zone. A cancer epidemic is a foregone conclusion.
The Washington Post published an article by Sherri Fink, on April 7th, which indicated that the U.S. health-care system is unprepared for a major nuclear emergency. The article, based on a Homeland Security review, continued with the disturbing assessment that; “there is no strategy for notifying the public in real time of recommendations on shelter or evacuation priorities.” The author indicated that the U.S. Strategic National Stockpile stopped purchasing counter radioactive drugs and designated the limited remaining quantities “excess.”.
The apparent lack of preparation is concerning on several levels. Cutting to the chase, what specific steps have been taken to provide for a catastrophic nuclear containment breach at the nuclear power plants in my state? How many counter radioactive drug doses, such as KI, Radiogardase, Calcium-DTPA and Zinc DTPA, are presently on-hand within 200 miles of these aging nuclear reactors? Clearly, Atlanta or Washington DC are too distant to provide a meaningful emergency medical response to a reactor breach in my state.
I am also concerned about non-medical disaster preparations, such as local availability of boron, and water filtration systems using zeolite and carbon. While such matters are out of your bailiwick, the Fukushima disaster has demonstrated that no lessons have been learned from Chernobyl. What specific steps are now being taken by the CDC, based on the lessons of Chernobyl, Fukushima and the many smaller nuclear contamination events?
Sincerely,
Bill Duff

Credit where Due
:(
To give credit where credit is due...
Government agencies, such as the CDC, are not responsible for the decision to dismantle the Nuclear Counter-Measure medical stockpile.
This policy of death comes directly from the White House and Congress.
The American public is YOYO-MOFO, exactly like the Japanese. The federal government death-squad is bi-partisan.
I pursued this exercise in futility, precisely to show that the System does not work. They came through and illustrated the point perfectly.

Strategic National Stockpile (SNS)
SNS: What it Means to You
CDC's Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) has large quantities of medicine and medical supplies to protect the American public if there is a public health emergency (terrorist attack, flu outbreak, earthquake) severe enough to cause local supplies to run out. Once Federal and local authorities agree that the SNS is needed, medicines will be delivered to any state in the U.S. in time for them to be effective. Each state has plans to receive and distribute SNS medicine and medical supplies to local communities as quickly as possible.
What should you know about the medicines in the SNS?
•The medicine in the SNS is FREE for everyone.
•The SNS has stockpiled enough medicine to protect people in several large cities at the same time.
•Federal, state and local community planners are working together to ensure that the SNS medicines will be delivered to the affected area to protect you and your family if there is a terrorist attack.
How will you get your medicine if the SNS is delivered to your area?
•Local communities are prepared to receive SNS medicine and medical supplies from the state to provide to everyone in the community who needs them.
•Find out about how to get medicine to protect you and your family by watching TV, listening to the radio, reading the newspaper, checking the community Web site on the Internet or learning from trusted community leaders.

U.S. health-care system unprepared for major nuclear emergency, officials say
http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/us_health_care_system_unprepared_...
One example: The U.S. Strategic National Stockpile stopped purchasing the best-known agent to counter radioactive iodine-induced thyroid cancer in young people, potassium iodide, about two years ago and designated the limited remaining quantities “excess,” according to information provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ProPublica. Despite this, the CDC Web site still lists potassium iodide as one of only four drugs in the stockpile specifically for use in radiation emergencies.
The drug is most effective when administered before or within hours of exposure. The decision to stop stockpiling it was made, in part, because distribution could take too long in a fast-moving emergency, one official involved in the discussions said. The interagency group that governs the stockpile decided that “other preparedness measures were more suitable to mitigate potential exposures to radioactive iodine that would result from a release at a nuclear reactor,” a CDC spokesperson said in an e-mail to ProPublica.
Many states don’t have a basic radiation emergency plan for communicating with the public or responding to the health risks. Even something as fundamental as the importance of sheltering inside sturdy buildings to avoid exposure to radioactive fallout from a nuclear explosion — which experts say could determine whether huge numbers of people live or die — hasn’t been communicated to the public.
Recently the White House and other federal officials concerned about deficiencies in public readiness met with experts to explore what might be done to make nuclear events more survivable. “The bottom line is that the citizenry are not prepared at all,” said Michael McDonald, president of Global Health Initiatives, who participated in White House and congressional briefings.

Neupogen®
When a person has received a very high dose of radiation, destruction of the bone marrow, potentially resulting in uncontrolled bleeding and infection, is a major concern. To help the recovery of the bone marrow, growth factors that stimulate the blood cells to multiply can be used. Filgrastim (trade name Neupogen®), is a drug that was approved for use by the FDA in 1991 for cancer patients with bone marrow damage due to chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Treated patients have had fewer infections, less need for intravenous antibiotics, and shortened hospital stays than those who did not receive the drug. Neupogen may also be useful for patients who have bone marrow damage from accidental exposures to high doses of radiation and it is expected to provide similar benefits.
Filgrastim (trade name Neupogen®) is a human granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) produced by recombinant DNA technology. It is a specific type of cytokine that stimulates the growth of white blood cells.
Don't count on help
As we have seen with many recent disasters, we can not count on our government to help us very much if at all.
It is sad but true. All our money goes to NATO.
Greedy land grabbing, for the big boys.
Status: Condition RED
:
The USA has nothing to give Fukushima. If we shipped 100% of our strategic national stockpile counter-radiation drugs to fukushima; it would be an empty box.
If an upstream Missouri River dam had failed last week, at least 2 USA nuclear power plants would have melted down. The American 'downwinders' would have been trapped by floodwaters. No evacuation could have occurred.
There is no plan or system in place to warn Americans. There is no evacuation planned or possible. There is no nuclear decontamination equipment at hospitals. There are no radiation drugs to distribute. There is no zeolite water filtration system in the USA.
America is a 'sitting duck' for any nuclear emergency. The use of MOX fuel has more than doubled the likelihood of reactor meltdowns in the USA because of control issues. MOX power uprates have more than doubled the likelihood of containment failure. The 20 year life extensions for corroded, ancient plants has more than doubled the likelihood of multiple reactor core meltdowns. The added plutonium in MOX fuel has more than doubled the health consequences of a reactor failure.
Worse, every page of the USA national nuclear disaster response plan is a lie. These ongoing lies have prevented the population from making their own preparations for nuclear disaster. You're On Your Own. (YOYO)

Kucinich to NRC: Sort out bad actors
http://www.examiner.com/government-in-columbus/failures-at-fukushima-tur...
Columbus Government Examiner - John Michael Spinelli, March 16, 2011
Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich, a long-time outspoken critic of nuclear power plants, intends to ask the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Wednesday to look at the safety of the nation's 104 nuclear power plants "through the prism" of the failing Fukushima nuclear power in northeast Japan that is failing further by the hour. Now the ranking minority member of a subcommittee of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee that he chaired last year that has oversight authority over the NRC, Kucinich, speaking on MSNBC Tuesday night, said he wants "to make sure all the bad actors in the industry are sorted out quickly" and that nuclear plants with a history of difficulty, including dishonesty by their operators, should be shut down.
Among the management problems Kucinich spoke of were a 2002 finding by the NRC Office of Investigations that concluded that FirstEnergy's application for access was falsified at Perry; that overtime records were deliberately falsified at Perry so as to appear to comply with technical specifications; and that the NRC found “creative timekeeping” at the Perry plant. Kucinich has called for the shuttering of Ohio's two FirstEnergy-owned nuclear power plants - Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit 1 [35 miles NE of Cleveland] and Perry Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1 [21 miles ESE of Toledo]. Kucinich said the U.S. has a generation of older plants that become more prone to problems the longer they are operated, but which are being pushed further because their owners want to "wring every dime of profit" out of them.

Does not look as if Sanders sounded any alarms or expressed any interest.
What have YOUR Guys Done?

Please SHARE with us, the GOOD things that YOUR GUYS have done during the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Start with March 10, 2011 and move to the present.
What statements did they place into the Congressional Record? What nuclear cautions and warnings went to their constituents in mailouts, emails and on their office webpages?
What have your guys done to keep the promises (lies) made on the CDC webpage, particularly with respect to the EMPTY nuclear counter-measure medication national 'stockpile'.
What have YOUR GUYS been saying and doing about the MOX ratings and 20 year life extensions for these DANGEROUS GE Mark-1 containment systems, routinely being granted by the NRC?

Sitting ducks
Yes, Bill we are sitting ducks.
What can we do ? What can I do ? I am just one person. I have fears about speaking out in protest with a lot of visibility. I fear the "thugs" that put people in jail, or other worse scenarios like dying in a pre-arranged accident.
We are dealing with absolute gangsters. Who else could get away with the current nuclear policy we have in place.
When the government fears
When the government fears the people there is freedom. When the people fear the government there is tyranny.
