Michael Ruppert

I'll just leave this here:
1. Within weeks, maybe a couple months, there will be a downturn in the economy that will be worse than the Great Depression
2. New Republican Congress will bring legislation to allow states to go bankrupt
3. Store up at least 3 months of food and have an alternative water source
4. Forced collapse of municipal bonds so they can break the unions
5. California, Michigan, and Illinois to go bankrupt
6. Major cities such as Los Angeles, Detroit, and Chicago to go bankrupt
7. Civil unrest
8. China to implode, and world will feel repercussions since they depend too much on continued Chinese growth

“From a Buddhist point of

“From a Buddhist point of view, this is standing the truth on its head by considering goods as more important than people and consumption as more important than creative activity. It means shifting the emphasis from the worker to the product of work, that is, from the human to the sub-human, surrender to the forces of evil.”(2) - It seems to me conspiracy theories are science fiction and fun to read, but the true nature of the world and it's unthinkable coldness and cruelty are revealed in the study of economics, statistics and political science.

Buddhist point of viiew

I wish we could all see it that way. Humans are greedy and evil.

The Three Components of Reality

Your life is what you make it. Your observations of people will tend to fit preconceived ideas and therefore reinforce your preconceived ideas.

Sane people are ALWAYS going to do what seems right to them in that moment. That sometimes results in self-serving or criminal or even violent behavior. Now here is the good part, that behavior is predictable. We are animals living in the real world pursuing life as best we can. Now if you live in the world with social awareness you can connect with others with social awareness. This changes everything. All humans are, to varying degrees, social animals so it really is up to you.

Have fun.

If I had been aware of what

If I had been aware of what exactly Political Science had to offer, I would have worked my ass off to get a degree after high school. Sadly I wanked off the last ten years and only recently (thanks to a BRAWM forum friend) became aware of what the study has to offer. I didn't post the "humans are evil quote" but I did post the "cold cruel world" one. I completely agree that our preconceived notions color the way we perceive the world and people. It IS a dog eat dog world...not to say that people are evil, but being blind to this notion that "it's an every man for himself/sink or swim world" for a good part of my life caused more grief and frustration for myself and my loved ones than I could ever explain. I've only recently come to the realization of how caught up I had become in a non-existent, hollywood influenced, version of reality. I've spent the last several months crying into cyberspace about how terrible and monstrous and insidious the nature of this crisis is and begging for someone/anyone to light up the darkness that surrounded this incredibly complex subject. Call me a wimp, go ahead...it really doesn't accurately describe who I really am. I am: self conscious, at times I can be a loud mouth, I can be incredibly rash when I read something that seems to connect the dots, and desperate for a friend for the last few months...but not a wimp thank you very much, I would and at times HAVE laid down my life for the people I love. To the above poster: I wish we could grab a beer. I'm going to wager you are a political science major and could field a lot of questions I have regarding this subject and many others. Hope all of you BRAWM forum regulars are well and godspeed to all of you. I don't plan on posting here again...I've spread enough graffiti across BRAWMS forum wall and learned all I can learn about the subject of nuclear physics and much, much more. Thank you all for tolerating my rants and raves and enlightening me regarding the true nature of the world (at 27 it was about time I figured that out).

“No degree of prosperity

“No degree of prosperity could justify the accumulation of large amounts of highly toxic substances which nobody knows how to make “safe” and which remain an incalculable danger to the whole of creation for historical or even geological ages. To do such a thing is a transgression against life itself, a transgression infinitely more serious than any crime ever perpetrated by man. The idea that a civilisation could sustain itself on the basis of such a transgression is an ethical, spiritual, and metaphysical monstrosity. It means conducting the economic affairs of man as if all species really did not matter at all.”

—E.F. Schumacher

"if all species" is "if

"if all species" is "if people" in the original quote, but I agree that the gross favoritism of people to everything else (apart from money) is responsible for much planetary devastation.

I just wanted to add that so-called propserity is how the decision makers have justified packing fuel pools to the point where a pool fire would be catastrophic. It has always been about cost. Nuclear power is fantastically expensive to do it right.

When ever before have

When ever before have engineers taken to blogs to spread disinformation? We stand at an historic crossroads, either industry with the collusion of government will over-ride democracy and environmental safety, or consumers and taxpayers will be able to uphold ideas of social compensation and real collective decision -making.

We have the worst of socialism and the worse of authoritarianism because we have removed legal responsibility for the damages caused by energy industries. The government ends up being an enabler of environmental catastrophe. This is so similar to the de facto immunity for Wall Street fraud even though the vast majority of Americans were victimized.

Why don’t voters vet candidates on their environmental stances rather than on guns, gays, and God? The focus is intentionally diverted to these issues which are minor when compared to the big picture.

"The idea came from an Indian I met after the war, in 1946. He told me, 'Overpopulation is the big problem coming up in the world' (nobody had ever heard of it in those days) and he said 'Want to make a lot of money, Harry? You have to import rubber contraceptives to India.' I didn't mind making money, but I didn't want to be the rubber king of India!" - Harry Harrison

Rubber Kings, I salute you.

Rubber Kings, I salute you. Crisis = Business as usual.

Talk to you in a couple of

Talk to you in a couple of months to see how it goes during the Armageddon.

Folks, Mr. Ruppert says this

Folks, Mr. Ruppert says this every 3-6 months.

He may be right, may be wrong. Last prognostication was end of July, and "even a monkey could see it."

In any case, what does this have to do with UCBNE measuring trace amounts of isotopes in California?

Thanks You! Ruppert cries

Thanks You! Ruppert cries wolf every 3-6 months, over and over and over! Just youtube his little speeches for the last few years and you'll see. Last year at this time he was saying that by the end of the summer everyone would realize the human industrialized society was over... a few months ago he said that as a result of Japan's problems, the world economy would implode this summer... etc... etc... etc... I think one of these days or years he'll be right. But you can't call imminent guaranteed doom in a few months, year in and year out, over and over, and still retain your credibility. I won't even watch his crap anymore... and I love watching doom predictions. He's probably still saying how someone else has calculated it, and he's been 80% right on his predictions, yada, yada... how about his imminent guaranteed doom predictions in the last 3 years, how accurate have they been... and how many have their been....

Total collapse doesn't

Total collapse doesn't happen over night. So oil isn't becoming more and more scarce? The globe doesn't consume more oil than it is capable of producing? Barrel prices aren't rising? Our world made of plastic and driven by diesel isn't desperately searching for alternative fuel sources? I'm just playing devils advocate here, really. I think some truths are hidden in plain sight.

Just a few quick

Just a few quick examples...

Ruppert... "There are so many of us who have been beating our brains out trying to make people listen, to say guys there are times when somebody says it’s here and they’re right.

Now what we have is a very short amount of time…

…when will the cliff event come?

I said no later than the Summer of 2010."

And again... I think he's probably right, maybe this summer... but he's been crying wolf for too long... sure he'll probably be right one of these days, months, years... but you can't cry wolf every 6 months until you're finally right and not lose credibility...

I'm not disagreeing with

I'm not disagreeing with anything you said, I'm pointing out that Ruppert has been calling over and over and over that doom will happend by X time, and X times keeps passing and doom doesn't happen... he's probably right in the longer term, so just stop making hyped shorter term call... after hyped short term call... when they keep being dead wrong... just watch his 'collapse alerts' or whatever he calls them for the last year and a half... he's been dead wrong on his emphatic short term hyped calls... over and over and over...

Past societies collapsed

Past societies collapsed because they did not know how to adapt to new challenges, which almost always included proper resource management. Just like this one will. So the cause was resource management methods. Blaming lack of resources takes your eyes off the mechanism for resource management, which is economics (our collective cultural stupidity).

I'm sure that future civilizations - if there are any after ours finishes puking up toxic wastes - will face the same problems of competition, resource restraints and war. That is a given.

But hopefully future civilizations will be less Toxic to the Entire Planet, including the non-industrial peoples.

And hopefully Fred Hoyle will be only Partly right:

"THIS IS A ONE SHOT AFFAIR. IF WE FAIL, THIS PLANETARY SYSTEM FAILS SO FAR AS INTELLIGENCE IS CONCERNED."

Hopefully this Age of Oil is a "one shot affair," but hopefully the post-oil age will produce an intelligent species (hopefully our descendants) that can survive without requiring a toxic industrial system to sustain it.

Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully. On the other hand- as civilisations ultimately destroy themselves, the environment, and often their domesticated inhabitants too, making the world a dangerous place for civilisations would be an improvement. The problem is the transition; once the hive loses its queen, so to speak, the mindless drones become a problem....for a while.
