Reactors still spewing radiation- are there ways to stop the releases quickly

This may be more appropriate for another forum section. After watching videos daily of ongoing releases and in light of the German findings that cesium levels appear to have remained constant in Japan. Isn't there something that could be done if Tepco were willing. Early on, Michio Kaku said, call in the troops and use the Chernoobyl solution. Is Tepco refusing to use a solution that would end this quickly?

First off, Kaku had no idea what he was talking about. Never ask a string theorist an engineering question. THe problem with the Chernobyl option of building a sarcophagus is that you need cooling to core. Putting a giant building over it will not help keep it cool. At this point with core on the floor conditions, one still needs to cool it, but a sarcophagus can be constructed soon to cover it. It may not happen since conceivably you can dismantle the reactor and remove the parts within a few years.
