Is EPA RadNet and/or entire EPA website down now?!!(7/02/2011)

Hello All, I tried repeatedly today to access bookmarked EPA websites and keep getting "Error#404-Not Found" message while trying to get that data as part of my thrice-daily routine of getting updates on Fukushima and especially now with threats looming at Los Alamos Labs & Nebraska's flooded Nuclear Power Plants?!! Hopefully it's just some technical issue rather than a intentional effort to keep the public in the dark from what might be happening in our own backyards now. I try to cling to the "reassurance" theme "spin"being put out there for the sake of my sanity & hopes for the future & this EPA site "disappearing"does not help matter any!! Maybe it's nothing......

EPA Website back up now

The RadNet or "SadNet" as it's been known lately is back up but haven't gotten the chance yet to see what might be again changed within its content.

SadNet

It might be allowing access to the website again-but Gamma & Total Beta Count graphs are frozen, making it not only useless, but a waste of time as well!! Real nice setting & associated mindset heading into the holiday weekend- It's got my jockey shorts caught up in a bundle & curbed any interest in seeing fireworks going off!!LOL!! It used to be "no news was good news"-but this years events sure put that notion to bed for good!!

They had a notice up two

They had a notice up two days ago that the site would be under maintenance over the weekend.

Don't panic.

EPA web maintenance

Hey BC-thanks for informing me about that!-I didn't know it was the case although it doesn't seem like the best time was chosen to do it?!! LOL!!-no panic here,I'm past that point-just occasionally getting pissed with the whole thing & suspicious nature has me reading too far ahead & between the lines I guess. Just wish I'd wake up & be relieved to find the whole thing is a nightmare brought on by a late nite pizza I had on March 10th!!LOL

No problemo. I'm just about

No problemo.

I'm just about done with RadNet anyhow. C'mon, no milk testing? meat, veg, seafood, etc?

This is the place I come for the real deal.

"Real" Data

Thanks again BC, The EPA "maintenance" was behind whatever reason the data & graphs are now non-functional with an "apology for some of the features now malfunctioning"showing up following "frozen" state of queried pages!!? I used "RatNet" in conjunction with all other sources including sensationalist type sites that contain "some" useful info. I guess most of us will continue to be schooled on the issue the "hard way" anyway since we get "official" word of the hazards & threats weeks after we're subjected to the impacts of this chain of events, long after protective measures or "shelter in place",etc. might have reduced overall exposure. I'm not all that trusting of the two supposedly independent sources-TheRadiationNetwork or Black cat Systems Radmap either. Many times I've noted that the EPA data indicates values over 100CPM while nearby private monitors display way less than the EPA does! They always seem to be at odds with each others findings and if the civilian findings show "slightly elevated"status, then after doubling their numbers comes closer to the questionable "official" no.'s. Personally,I hope that whatever is really happening behind the scenes doesn't add to the realities of the impact of Fukushima here-but I hope the implications of what could've happened & dangers remaining while rivers overflow and fires rage near facilities that force the issue into the focus of the public eye. If it ruins the hugely expensive pro-nuke PR campaign that incredibly is being swallowed by the majority of people that choose to remain in submissive denial, then the anxiety felt by logical people smart enough to be very concerned may be worth the anxiety felt by those of us waiting for society to catch up & finally shut the nuclear power industry & put the nuclear scientists to work focusing instead on safely shutting them all down & find technology to find ways to decontaminate & neutralize radioactivity. I'd bet even the "Homer" on the forklift would agree that they should've found ways to "tame"the technology before building these monstrosities and starting them up and then extending their licenses well beyond the dates they were designed to operate for. I can't stand how this issue & those of us intelligent enough to be concerned have been lumped together with people freaking out about asteroids & volcanoes & other "naturally occurring" possibilities that have been a threat to earth since the beginning of time!! It just doesn't apply to this issue that regardless of how it's triggered by natural causes,is ultimately due to the actions of greedy, irresponsible humans! The overall response by the overwhelming majority is disbelief, denial, and inaction. Seems to me that the despicable leadership being displayed in these troubled times indicates that they forgot who they really work for. If enough registered voters spoke up & took even minimal steps to show that it may be important enough to them to be a factor in the elections we might still be around to participate in. I've shifted some of my focus on researching candidates & possible candidates for offices with a new emphasis on where they stand on this matter first, and everything else of concern in the order of importance. Logic prevails here regarding my stance & the order of priorities since everything nuclear that's going on now,or in the cards is absolutely meaningless if the planet is no longer able to endure the abuses mankind subjects it to and everything else the masses selfishly & stupidly place above a global nuclear catastrophe will also be determined by human response & the follow-up should they miraculously be able to somehow "contain & end" the crisis before it "ends" it for us. Well I didn't intend to write a "novel' here!!LOL!!-But "venting"about it has a calming effect of sorts that allows me to refrain from getting too damned emotional & bent about it!!LOL!! I've noted that you've been here & possibly on other website resources since the start of it all & that you've also kept your head on straight & been consistently level-headed & logical in your contributions to forums. Unfortunately I have had a few "brain-farts"& outbursts every once in a while when frustration & public apathy got the best of me-thus I've limited my interactions & learned to ignore personally offensive comments, etc. so I can put my time spent on the issue to more productive use instead of being drawn into some dumb shit that I could've shown more class by ignoring or responding to it with logical, factual data & analysis than by lashing out & psychoanalyzing to comments or replies-whether they intentionally instigate drama or not. Best of luck to you & yours! And I hope most of us who haven't been able to brush aside worries about Fukushima or any of the current nuclear concerns plaguing our daily thoughts-are able to celebrate the 4th of July Holiday weekend & that nothing "extreme" Literally "pisses on our parade"LOL!! Sincerely, J.Plesha sr. "Capone-ville",USA

RADNET

Some/Most online radiation sites which are privately run, show results from testing inside air. RADNET sensors test OUTSIDE air and it makes a BIG difference in the results. Also, a distance of just a few miles, or higher altitude can change results.
