we are all in the same boat on this and have to work together to help each other to make sure our children and children's children can have a healthy life. we must make some serious changes or we will condemn ourselves to a hostile and very grim world

I think we are all in agreement on your points, regardless of how good/bad we think these situations are.
But what "serious changes" can we make? We have no power. We have been duped into thinking our representatives represent us. As sure as I'm typing this, "the powers that be" (whoever you believe they are - it doesn't matter now) will absolutely not permit the people to control their destinies. No way. Do you realize how much money and power is at stake?
It's our own fault. We gave up our freedoms incrementally and now we get what we paid for. Unfortunately good people, innocent people suffer, but that's the way of tyrants.

Wow this makes it sound way worse than it is. This "nuclear waste" is low level solid waste, which means it is just drums full of lab coats and gloves etc.

they've already said the stuff inside is contaminated with plutonium. don't try to tell me there were guys wearing gloves and coats handling that stuff. Just the other night, Rachel Maddow reported that the rumor about the no fly zone at Ft. Calhoun was false, that there have always been no fly zones over all nuke plants since 9/11. Not true. This was a new TFR (temp flight restriction) issued by the FAA on 6/7/11, for "hazards." I can't believe even HER folks are playing the game, too. Wait, yes I can.

I don't give a damn that this may not be that bad. All this crap is bad period! Stop excusing and justifying everything that is harmful and irresponsible behavior by our government! If we continue to do so then they will keep pushing the boundaries out even further and decide that you might just deserve a little more poison in your air, food and water just because you are a nice guy and you don't mind! Well, I do!!!

Thisis just freaking unbelievable! I can't believe that our government has allowed the drums to reach 30,000 and think that nothing can happen to them. What is wrong with this country!! We need to stand up and say no more excuses, justifications, etc., if the gov and the nuclear industry can't act responsibly then no more nuclear power! Germany did it, so did Italy after chernobyl and so can we. We need to stop looking on the bright side all the time because there is only darkness awaiting if we keep trying to justify everything so we don't seem like alarmists, demanding, freaks, and more.

In a perfect world we would form communities of stable populations where we could live without degrading the environment. In a slightly less perfect world we would live in collections where our demands on resources only damaged the environment and area in the immediate area of habitation. In a even less optimum world we would be managed to produce a maximum profit irregardless to the damaged caused for those that define profit in fairly complete disregard for the biosphere. The last case is the current case. Let us find a balance where things that effect the population as a group are completely controlled by said population or community.

I can't remember which news network I was watching but they had the former head of the IEA on about his worries if the fire reached Los Alamos..
Then they showed the head of the Los Alamos labs on claiming everything is perfectly safe...
Then they went back to the former head of the IEA and asked him when should we start worrying.. His exact quote "when somebody from the lab or the Gov't comes out and says EVERYTHING IS PERFECTLY SAFE, thats when you start worrrying"

What wonderful unvarnished honesty, for ONCE. I, too , would LOVE to see that clip!
Yes, like the other poster, I am laughing and crying at the same time.
Really, we all need to wake up and smell the coffee--and make our voices heard loud and clear. I hope that these debacles serve as the wake-up call that most of us needed (and I surely include myself here) and spur us to take action--I only hope that it is not already too late!
