A level 4 emergency in Nebraska and nobody cares?

What is wrong with people? NBC is owned by GE, so it makes sense that they want nothing of it, but what about CNN?

Is the government in panic mode? Worried that just one story like this will cause everyone to swear off Nuclear forever like they have in Germany and are doing in Italy? If so, then that's exactly what we need to do.

Weren't there unexplained radiation spikes in this region LAST MONTH? If so, this has been a problem for awhile. Something is very very fishy here. And when news stories "disappear" for no reason, and mainstream media isn't covering a nuclear emergency, we've got BIG BIG problems.

Wake up America!!

Education

Everyone should have the experience I had as a preteen. I took a Atomic Energy class at the Museum of Science and Industry. While we did NOT build a nuke in class we did 'play' with lots of hot stuff. Their was PLENTY of class time on the subject of fission. I learned enough to know that it should not be present in the biosphere, PERIOD. I gained a foundation that helped me in Chemistry and Physics. As a result of this foundational exposure I can absorb the technical AND smell the BS when it comes floating by - no matter the source. Lets find a sponsor (grant) for atomic energy education so we can more fully take advantage of the current brilliant lemon the glow boys have made for us.

The model rocketry class was fun too.

great post!

great post!

Did the authoer even read the NRC release or the inpsection rep?

An NRC finding of a code "white" violation is not at all the same as an INES Level 4 accident. Did the author even rear the NRC issued release or the publically available inspection report? This is an example of regulatory authority and review working exactly as intended, not a failure of government agencies or news outlets. Talk about scaremongering...

From NRC.gov -

NRC inspectors reported that the licensee’s procedures to manually operate valves that are part of the high pressure coolant injection system would not prove effective in the event of a fire. The system is an independent emergency cooling system that is one of the means available to provide water to cool the reactor during certain loss of coolant accidents.

“Fire protection programs are a critical component in plant safety and the NRC is paying special attention to ensure the licensee takes actions to fully correct this issue,” Region IV Administrator Elmo E. Collins said.

The NRC uses a color-coded system to categorize inspection findings. They range from “green,” for an issue of very low safety significance, to “red” for a highly significant safety issue.

In this case, the violation has been determined to be “white,” indicating the issue is of low to moderate safety significance. The finding is based on an NRC inspection completed on March 14.

NRC held a regulatory conference at its Region IV office in Arlington, Texas, on April 27, and based its final significance determination, in part, on information presented there. The NRC will conduct a supplemental inspection at a future date to evaluate the company’s corrective actions.

Arnie Gundersen. Level 4 event already, apparently about to get worse.

all of the mainstream media

all of the mainstream media is interowned by the same class of people - the lowlife filth on GE are owned by the same lowlife filth on CNN. In fact, CNN's founder, Ted Turner, is on record saying the earth would be a better place if 80%+ of the population were exterminated.

Nebraska's is another in a growing list of nucplants which have had cooling systems failures.

Meanwhile, in a *totally unrelated* *cough* story, the New York Times reported that the Stuxnet virus was developed by the USA and its good friend in the middle east. Stuxnet targets Siemens controllers which are used in nucplants, and it was built using digital certificates which only could have been obtained on "the inside."

Thank you for your post,

Thank you for your post, survivor. We need more of this kind.

The scum has been rising to

The scum has been rising to the top. No doubt.

Just out of curiosity, I

Just out of curiosity, I tried searching Ft. Calhoun specs to see if they have a Siemens controller - can't seem to find, no doubt my lack of savvy skills to find the info.
Anyone know?

Tourism

I am jealous. The Ukraine's got Chernobyl, Japan has Fukushima and what do we have ??? A dud. TMI didn't even blow up properly so here's hoping Those corn huskers can come through with something that will bring in the tourists.
