What is the name of the honorable mail order tea brand? Obviously, they can be trusted to deliver safe products to their customers.
The high reading was discovered by a mail order tea company in Tokyo that carried out its own measurements.

Dried leaves from the year's first harvest in the Honyama area of Shizuoka were found to contain radioactive cesium at a level of 679 becquerels per kilogram, above the permitted maximum of 500 becquerels. But the discovery was made by chance, and the authorities admit that earlier consignments, which were not examined and have gone to the market, may have also been contaminated.
Limits on the sale of tea from areas closer to Fukushima have been put in place, but Shizuoka is to green tea what the Champagne region of France is to sparkling wine, and the effect of the news will be devastating. Japan produced 95,000 tons (86,000 tonnes) of dried tea in 2009, and 42 percent of that was from Shizuoka. The prefecture, supported by the ministry of agriculture, has insisted on carrying out radiation measurements in such a way as to minimize the suggestion that its precious product is dangerous.

Thanks for the link, but the results are kind of weird? They tested 24,815 samples and only 5 had radioactive contamination, only 3 of them over the limit and that was more than three months ago?

Then we agree, that this is an example of darn good Nippon export quality control.
Japan is generally good at zero-defect manufacturing. They are apparently equally good at near-zero defect, food product radiation screening.
Not a major mystery, just excellent QC.

The French government will dispose of green tea shipped from Japan's Shizuoka Prefecture after detecting 1,038 becquerels per kg measured in the 162 kg green tea radioactive cesium, above the European Union's limit of 500 becquerels/Kg, at Charles de Gaulle airport.

Perhaps TEPCO, General Electric and Hitachi will compensate the French government, and any other innocent parties, for the nuclear waste disposal costs.

Radioactive cesium was detected in processed tea that was made from leaves that elementary school children picked in Tokyo as part of their school curriculum, it has been learned.
The Itabashi Ward Office announced on June 30 that 2,700 becquerels of radioactive cesium -- in excess of the government's provisional limit -- was detected in processed tea that used leaves picked at a plantation in the ward by some 300 students of local elementary schools.
According to the ward office, the tea-picking class took place on May 9, and fourth- and fifth-grade students from three public elementary schools in the ward participated in the event. When the approximately 20 kilograms of processed tea -- made of some 80 kilograms of first-harvest leaves that the students had picked -- was screened, 1,300 becquerels of cesium 134 per kilogram and 1,400 becquerels of cesium 137 per kilogram were detected.

Canada became the first country to lift all restrictions on food imports from Japan the Japanese government said Tuesday. 40 other countries and areas continue to restrict food imports from Japan, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Monday that following an assessment it "no longer sees the need for routine testing imported food products," effective the same day. Since April 1, the agency had demanded test results verifying the safety of all products imported from 12 prefectures including Fukushima and neighboring prefectures. The agency had also asked for certificates proving the origin of products from other prefectures.
Japan's exports of farm and fishery products to Canada totaled about 4.6 billion yen in 2010.

Its bad enough that the Canadian gov is no doing any local food, milk and water testing because if you look at the air samples there was high fallout especially in BB and toward the Terrotories which leads me to believe that Alberta got a good brunt of that.
Given that Canadians have free healthcare/ paid be the government it is inconceivable that they would want to have more sick people that would require health services. I am a Canadian who currently lives in US and this is hard for me to believe because I always thought that Canadian government had stricter regulations for air, water, food because of the government paid healthcare. But now it looks like I was wrong and all the countries have each others Back rather than their own people's.
