Hi BRAWM..New rainwater measurements from this storm?
Hi Mark,
Will you be analyzing this last storms rainwater? I sure hope so and I look forward to the results. Thanks again for your incredible work and info that you provide to the public.

We were not able to collect
We were not able to collect any rain over the weekend, probably due to some leaks from the small holes that have developed in our tarp over months of use. Testing rain water has become a low priority for us as we try to take longer acquisition times on other samples, such as milk, soil, grass, and foods. There are two reasons for this:
(1) We have not seen any fission products in the five samples of rainwater collected since 4/19.
(2) Rainwater concentrations should be tied to air concentrations. So if there are any elevated levels of radioisotopes, this should be easily seen in our air monitoring. Air monitoring continues at a frequency of one sample per week, and a new air report is due out tomorrow evening.
(3) There are still detectable levels of fission products in other things (e.g., milk), and we are more interested in following those at this point. Testing these things is taking more and more time as the levels get lower and lower.

Yes please
Yes, please test the rainwater that's coming down now. Many of us have suspicion that there's been another large release of radiation from Fukushima in the last week - spent fuel pond steaming, crack in floor giving out Sieverts of radiation, lack of any real news reports, etc.
Thank you.
best sampling technique / timing for sampling rainwater
Has much thought gone into pursuing the best sampling technique / timing for sampling rainwater ?
I know from experience camping in mountains during fires that the first fifteen minutes of rain will carry most of the airborne ash. The longer it rains the cleaner the rain gets.
We want to sample the dirtiest rain, right?
Can the sample collected be annotated in terms of exactly what rain (day time and if it contains first precipitation since previous rain of..) went into the given sample?
I second this request and
I second this request and thanks!
I third it! And, thank you
I third it!
And, thank you so, so much.
