How the times have changed!
Looking at archived articles about Chernobyl has been very enlightening to me. It's amazing how complacent the media and most of America has become.

"The Soviet Government has issued no warning about milk consumption in Moscow and has not made public specific readings about the level of radiation in agricultural products."
Well, somethings have changed. They may be considered incomplete, but the results of the water, milk and food tests were made public by the Japanese quite soon after the accident.

Lots of interesting stuff here!
It's not complacency, it's
It's not complacency, it's ignorance. If our citizens fail to educate themselves, how can you expect them to take action? Common sense says, you gotta want to learn the truth in order to understand the consequences. A real ratio of those who know and understand are probably somewhere in the 1:1,0000 range. That's why America will fail! It's a sad fact.
Most people prefer to
Most people prefer to believe their leaders are just and fair even in the face of evidence to the contrary, because once a citizen acknowledges that the government under which they live is lying and corrupt, the citizen has to choose what he or she will do about it. To take action in the face of a corrupt government entails risks of harm to life and loved ones. To choose to do nothing is to surrender one’s self-image of standing for principles. Most people do not have the courage to face that choice. Hence, most propaganda is not designed to fool the critical thinker but only to give moral cowards an excuse not to think at all.
It's classic psychology,
It's classic psychology, isn't it? Ignorance = easily duped. No better than marks hustled by con men. But you know what the key to success is for the con man? That the mark wants to believe the con, despite his better judgement, and will succumb for his own selfish benefit and to his detriment/destruction. Gotcha.
duped
Don't underestimate the power of hopelessness to facilitate the con. There is nothing we can do. Avoiding certain foods and limiting milk consumption (which my family is doing) is like using a band-aid to stop an arterial bleed.
The only reason the mark
The only reason the mark wants to believe the con man is because he's assuming that the con man is saying something he wants to hear. If you take two men and each of them supply a different concept of where the world is headed, the mark will gravitate to the news that supports his lifestyle. That goes for both sides. No one wants to hear that radiation is devastating the planet, therefore they live their lives without the knowledge of it. That can be beneficial to some as the mind is extremely powerful in healing the body through positive thinking. But at the end of the day it does much more harm than good.
Yep! You better explained
Yep! You better explained what I was trying to say re: the key to the success of the con.
