Water Storage
Question:
Why can't TEPCO order 500 water towers and place them on the site near the reactors ? Then the can place their radioactive water in these storage containers and store them on site, until another plan can be worked out.
I feel it is a crime to dump that water into the ocean. They need to spend some money, on the mess they have made, and act within the international laws.
The largest water tower in the world is located in McBee, South Carolina and holds 1,200,000 US gal (4,500,000 l) of water. Per Wikipedia***

What the...? Wait a minute.
What about that "mega float" they moved up there? Didn't it arrive, finally, over the weekend? If I've done my figuring right, that ought to handle AT LEAST a full week's worth of pumping... Ceasing removal operations for, what, three weeks, seems like something that could have been avoided with better planning, efficiency, and logistical support...
Rick Cromack.
Allen, Texas
It arrived two days ago
It can apparently hold 10,000 tonnes. Maybe that's a week's worth?
You mean the barge ?
Rick do you mean the barge ? Not sure I thought I read they are dumping the barge water off the coast of Somalia.
I think they need to spend some money and abide by the rules, no free ocean dumping buy some 500-`1000 water tanks and keep then around the plant the whole area around there is radioactive anyway.
I agree, There has to be
I agree,
There has to be some better way to hold this water, and then treat it somehow before dumping it anywhere. I just can't believe there is not a better plan than this with all the great minds/universities/companies/militaries in the world?????? They need to ask for more help.
There are ways to treat the water
But, it's not a silver bullet by any means.
