Rain update 5/20
5/20 (5:15pm): The rain we collected on 5/15-16 has been analyzed and added to our rainwater page. This is our fifth rain sample in a row where we haven't detected any radioisotopes from Japan, and we have set our lowest detection limits yet.

Sweet! Keep that good news
Sweet! Keep that good news coming! And, thanks so much---
That is excellent news!
Now I hope it washes out the radiocesium as much as possible and the amounts continue to diminish in the soil and food chains. But i do expect the radiocsium to be around for some time.
Can you guys SEE what is possible to check for Strontium 90 in the foodstuffs? I expect THAT is a critically important health issue and, as I have said earlier, governmental authorities have stated that where they find rqadiocesium they expect there may well be strontium 90.
Is that something BRAWM would agree with or is that beyond your ability to conjecture?
And WHAT exactly do you folks NEED to test the produce for Strontium 90? I write grants and I would be happy to try and help you get whatever you need. Just name a budget (and you could suggest donors too).
Your commitment to this important work is well demonstrated and BRAWM really NEEDS to be able to test for strontium 90.
(Especially since we never know when one of our own plants may have an emergency or leaks or worst case scenarios. Better for you to be prepared than for your devoted students and public be kept in the dark about the strontium contaminAtion
Wouldn't BRAWM team members agree???
You probably wouldn't detect
You probably wouldn't detect Sr-90 above levels that are remaining from atmospheric weapons tests.
The signal would be lost in the background, and there isn't a good baseline to compare.
EPA stats still has Sr-90 in milk at 1-3 pC/l as of 1998. Since it's an analog for calcium, this is probably the most concentrated source in which to find results.
Hear hear!! What great news.
Hear hear!! What great news. Thanks so much BRAWM! Please keep monitoring. I'm still checking every day and cannot tell you how much I appreciate the work you all are doing.
Thanks for the results!
Thanks for the results! Good news for sure.
Excellent!!!
Thanks, Mark and BRAWM team!!!
