Green Waste Recycling in the SF Bay Area & Beyond
After Chernobyl, all of our garbage, paper, green waste, plant prunings, etc. went into our garbage can which was then hauled away and buried in a hole in the ground. Thus, a lot of the radioactive materials were probably buried away from populated areas. Operative word is buried!
Today, our cities recycle EVERYTHING including green waste and tree prunings. We put the green waste into a Green Can, the truck hauls the green waste to a facility in the city where it is added to the pile and composted! The city uses the compost in planters and in parks all around the city. In addition, they give away free bags of compost to residents to use in their yards. They also sell it to other communities. Thus, this radioactive material is going to be circulating around our communities for a long, long time.
Any ideas about how to deal with this issue in our communities? Most people have the blinders on and don't even realize that we have a problem.

I was wondering the same thing. Where should we be putting our grass clippings?
