Frightening if true
Does anybody know about the Korean "Arirang" tv station? Are they
a credible source? One would assume that NHK would have reported
such high levels of Cs in Tokyo. Those levels are extremely high.
And while contamination can be inconsistent across the country,
having levels higher 150 miles away than at the actual source seems
strange. I certainly hope they are wrong.

Moving on to the latest developments in Japan's ongoing nuclear crisis highly radioactive substances were detected in parts of Tokyo.
Japan's Asahi Shimbun reports about 3,200 and nearly 2-thousand becquerels of radioactive cesium per kilogram were found in the soil of Tokyo districts of Koto and Chiyoda, respectively, from testing conducted between April 10th and the 20th.
This amount is higher than what was found in the prefectures near the Fukushima plant and experts warn that other areas may be subject to radiation contamination as clusters of clouds containing radioactive material remain in the atmosphere.
Meanwhile, the plant's main operator, TEPCO, says that over 3-thousand tons of contaminated water has been found in the basement of the No. 1 reactor, causing a delay in Japan's latest approach to cool down the reactors.

I wonder if this information
I wonder if this information isn't a leak from the 100-page document referred to in this article: http://www.asahi.com/english/TKY201105130370.html
No way to tell from that article
Only that they apparently delayed the release of the data they had.
It was reported that the levels where obviously high at the plant.
I obviously can't say whether TEPCO reported the info in a timely
manner or not. I remember getting radiation reports on CNN (the good
old days when CNN actually was acknowledging the crisis). But, I don't
remember if those reports came on the days mentioned in the asahi
article about the 100 page document.
In any case, if the levels are higher in Tokyo than in some ares of
Fukushima, I guess this may really be a case of "hot spots" due to rain.
Very frightening.
frightening indeed...
Hopefully in the next week or so, there will be some clarification.
maybe not related to Fukushima?

Radiation fears at new Japan nuclear plant
2011-05-02 13:03
Tokyo - Local authorities said they suspected radiation leaks at a nuclear plant in central Japan, news reports said on Monday, after another plant in the north-east has been struggling with quake and tsunami damage for several weeks.
Officials in Fukui Prefecture reported radiation leaks from fuel rods at the Tsuruga plant, Jiji Press reported.

Anyone read Japanese?

Google does a terrible job at translating:

This is supposed to be the original newspaper print:

It's said that The middle column of this table with figures shows the level of radioactive cesium detected (unit: becquerrel/kg). The upper four rows are from the areas in Tokyo, the 5th row is from Saitama (north of Tokyo), 6th through 8th are from Chiba (east of Tokyo), 9th is from Ibaraki. (south of Fukushima), and the bottom row is from Fukushima.
I can't read or speak Japanese
But, I think the first link is for a party. And the second link is
the drink list with prices.......
Seems to be correct as far
Seems to be correct as far as I can tell. But they already detected contamination by cesium and iodine in Tokyo during March, no? It seems the news is that they started a survey.
perhaps?
I think perhaps it's the levels near Tokyo which were alarming?
Data about fallout by
Data about fallout by prefecture are being published by MEXT. Only in March 22 they measured around 10,000 Bq/m2 of Cesium for Tokyo (and a lot more of Iodine 131 but that one must be almost gone by now). You can't compare Bq/m2 to Bk/kg directly, but it's an indication of ground contamination.
Do you have a link to the MEX info?
10,000 Bq/m2 of Cesium for Tokyo is one hell of a lot. I'd
like to see that documented somewhere......
MEXT is the Japanese
MEXT is the Japanese Ministry of Science. The info in English is here: http://www.mext.go.jp/english/incident/1303962.htm
The fallout data for March 21st is here: http://www.mext.go.jp/component/english/__icsFiles/afieldfile/2011/05/08...
This one only includes Cesium 137, though. I remember seeing another site that included both Cesium 134 and Cesium 137, don't know where I have the link.
