can someone plz take a look at this report
according to Kyodo News, Japan, Fukushima University, released 11 balloons observations show for the first nuclear power plant accident in Fukushima release of radioactive material are likely to drift in the vicinity of 6 to 8 km altitude. The vertical height of radioactive material released into the atmosphere to fix the first time.
According to reports, the team will be through the application of the spread of radioactive materials on the basis of forecast data to improve prediction accuracy. Research Team Leader, Vice President Watanabe Fukushima University, Ming said: "The results show that (by accident) the release of radioactive material has spread worldwide. However, because not immediately fall to the ground, it will not affect health. "
According to reports, Watanabe on April 15 to 29 in Fukushima city once a day with balloon observations, measurements had to 20 km altitude from the ground the amount of radiation. Measurement results show that near the surface of the beta-ray is about 134cpm (cpm to units of radiation), radiation decreases as the balloon rises, and 6 km above the surge in the amount of radiation, at 8.2 km above the peak 506cpm. Beta-ray is usually the case is about 80cpm.
Reported that the release of radioactivity from the nuclear material may have been in the atmosphere in the troposphere and stratosphere and the troposphere at the junction, released into the atmosphere a few laps around the Earth.
Does this mean flying commercial is no longer safe?

link please
yea i cant find this article any where damn it i do know of the sudy but need verification /.
this study was done by a
this study was done by a Japanese institute so the only thing a/b is in jap....
found the original nhktv reportabout fukushima unv.

altitude survey got a balloon
could the berkeley team do a similar survey that would be so cool.
The translation sounds a bit
The translation sounds a bit funny, was it made with google translate? Do you have a link to the article?
china syndrome occurred weeks ago
we will be safe after the core melts a deep hole in the earth. then just fill with cement, dust off hands, no worries.
Ty for this post
As with most all radiation the effect won't be acute(instant death) so yes it's safe for now but in the long term we are the experiment funny as this data contradicts all the bs reports we got in the USA can't reach us needs an explosion to get high in atmosphere .doomsdayers seem to have more credibility at this point.
To be more accurate....
Before any fallout arrived in the US, we were told the following:
President Obama (3/16/2011):
"We do not expect harmful levels of radiation to reach the United States, whether it’s the West Coast, Hawaii, Alaska, or U.S. territories in the Pacific."
The US EPA (3/15/2011):
"we do not expect to see radiation at harmful levels reaching the U.S. from damaged Japanese nuclear power plants"
Calif. Dept. of Public Health (web site):
"Hawaii, Alaska, the U.S. Territories and the U.S., the West Coast is not expected to experience any harmful levels of radioactivity"
I haven't heard "can't reach us" from any of the agencies. I've only heard that from "experts" in the media.
Yup, and neither the EPA,
Yup, and neither the EPA, the White House or the FDA did ANYTHING to correct those reports in the media. In fact, the white house has apparently instructed the EPA to stop monitoring at all. F**K us all!
fema ordered millions of
fema ordered millions of bodybags, so at least we won't have to buy expensive coffins.
where did you get that info?
where did you get that info?
All they can do is make their own statements
The govt. agencies are sticking to their statements. I'm not sure what else they can do to "correct" the media reports.
As for the White House instructing the EPA to stop monitoring, they've tested longer this time than they did for Chernobyl. At least for iodine and cesium in the region in which Calif falls, they tested for 1 month after Chernobyl. First sample 5/8/1986, last sample 6/5/1986. That was after a high of 1.6 pCi/M3 in the 4th sample on 5/12/1986 (that was in Phoenix, btw), and after fluctuating for a week or two, ending with 0.0063 pCi/L in the last sample. So, they seem to be following a similar model of dropping it after levels get to a certain point.
Chernobyl ENDED in TWO
Chernobyl ENDED in TWO WEEKS, this is NOT over - not by a long shot. Do you understand the difference? How are we going to know what we are being exposed to if they don't keep testing. Radiation continues to spew out as we speak and there could be another massive release today, tomorrow, who knows! How, under those circumstances can they possibly justify stopping testing??! If for no other reason than we need some baseline measurements.
The levels may have dropped for now, but this is an ongoing crisis with absolutely no end in sight. I have a small child and I live on the west coast. I am having nightmares every night because i feel so powerless to keep him safe from this.
The Chernobyl fires ended in
The Chernobyl fires ended in two weeks. That cut off the worst of the emissions.
However, there was a gaping hole in reactor four, fir seven months until the sarcophagus could be finished. During this time there was still outgassing and wind picked up suspended fallout around the site.
Watch "The Battle of Chernobyl."
I'm sorry, that's just not
I'm sorry, that's just not the same situation we are in now - with 5 reactors all in such a tenuous state and they all could explode at any minute.
Could
Let's try to keep what *could* happen and what *has* happened in perspective. The discussion is about what is currently going on. Not worst case scenarios that haven't happened. At least not yet....
pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
oh jiminy crickets!
i don't see what difference that could make. in fact that is an importatn part of the scientific process to make educated guesses and to think outside the box, to plan and be prepared for unknowns and other variables.
pick a bale of cotton, pick a bale of hay.
Yup
I stand corrected though I was referring to upper atmosphere and the releases reaching that high without an explosion.as proven by Fukushima unv this is not the case.
Yep. You were right on that point
I did hear the upper atmoshere reference on tv. But, I don't recall any of the govt. agencies saying that it required upper atmoshphere transportation for it to reach as at all. So, as far as the govt. statements go, the devil is in the details of what is "harmful levels".
fallout /transport data
fallout maps links at dutchsinse.com/blog , dont look if you are afraid of the truth. Grim radiation forecast. these are backdoor links and maybe shutdown, pls save backups.
Covered that already
The "truth" you are pointing to are actually simulations. Not actual measured data. The BRAWM team has covered the disclaimers a number of times already. And the simulations are apparently covering the total M^2 column of air from the surface to the top of the atmoshere. Not the fallout that reaches the surface at any given place shown on the maps.
When it rains whatever is in
When it rains whatever is in the upper atmosphere falls down to the surface, so a measure of the total column load is in fact very useful.
Not saying it's not useful
But, it's also not *actual*. It's a simulation. And most people will get the wrong idea of what it's showing.

Not sure if this is related!
But I just read that Holland America and Carnival Cruise Lines are working on Stealth Cruise Ships for those worried about airline radiation. They expect to roll out their first high speed cruise liner, which travels at 40 knots, in December 2012.
