Rad test on commercial airline heapa filter

Yes I am crazy enough to want this test to be done I fly a lot and wonder about what I had breathed during hieght of plume in this test would have revealed a lot.
'Toxic' cabin air found in new plane study
Samples taken secretly from the planes of popular airlines have raised fresh concerns over passengers inhaling contaminated air.

Can anyone confirm/deny Hot Caviar's info?

Hot Caviar posted a pretty arresting entry below. It has been on my mind since I read it. He is asking for anyone who may have first-hand info about this alleged incident to contribute what they know.

So, anyone with genuine information about a plane landing at Reno (or anywhere else for that matter) that may have required some form of remediation?

Radiation detected in a plane's air filtration system

This was back in March, but wanted to bring it to your attention.

"In one instance, radiation was detected in a plane's air filtration system"

Here's the article:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/03/17/national/main20044341.shtml

Here's the telling statement

Reference above article post

Mayor Richard M. Daley and other city officials wouldn't provide any additional details, saying federal authorities were handling the situation.
We never heard anything more did we I would also point this out we never heard results of this test either I am curios what isotopes it contained.Wouldn't want to scare the public my guess.

In one instance, radiation was detected in a plane's air filtration system. Radiation was also found in luggage and on passengers on flights from Japan.

Rad Jets Arrive at Reno International Airport

A friend who listens to the local aviation channels on scanner radios mentioned to me that early this morning another Japanese airliner (I won't say the name, but surely the reader can figure it out!)flew in to Reno International Airport with geiger readings mentioned over the air of '60.' All HEPA filters were to be changed out and NO American passengers were to be allowed on flights to be taken by that plane. (as a side note: in March one of these Japanese airliners flew in and two of the passengers had signs of radiation sickness per the Dr. who was with them.)

I asked him if he heard the words 'Sieverts' or 'Rads' in connection with the '60' geiger reading and he thought he heard 'Sievert.' Staff had an animated exchange and only that particular Japanese airlines' Staff, engineers and authorized US staff were to be allowed on both before and after change out of HEPA filters and SEAT CUSHIONS!

Anybody know any commercial airline pilots who can comment as to any 'inside scoop' they may be getting concerning elevated particulate radiation levels and health monitoring for pilots and crew?

If I had a company requiring staff traveling to and from Japan or any countries within a 1000 mile radius of Fukushima, Japan I think I'd opt for video conferencing and heavy usage of overnight mail until the cold shutdown and proof of radiation release shows that it has ceased. Also, since radioactive particulate matter is elevated and will be for at least 3 years all jet setters will be exposing themselves to at least 3 to 5 times or more of this stuff than before the event-just my guess knowing full well the pattern of the jet stream traveling over the more northerly latitudes during this El Nina year.

If anyone has a more informed guess of what the exposure levels may be for jetsetters, please post it!

Thanks!

These articles posted are

These articles posted are about chemical contaminants from jet oil, not radioactive contamination. As we have shown, any additional dosage from breathing contaminated air would not even be measurable compared to the dose you get just from flying in an airplane normally.

Ty for response

Yes U r correct they refer to other types of contamination I just posted that to show outside air is used even when u are in jet stream hence my question .wouldn't it be a perfect filter to analyze even if it may not be a health hazard?

I would love to know too as

I would love to know too as I am flying often too. Should we be wearing N95 masks when flying or is a facial mask like the ones for hospitals enough?

I purchased n100 masks to

I purchased n100 masks to have on hand when mowing ect.n95 masks are not effective when it comes to radionuclides...

Masks and minimizing exposure...

We're all exposed whether we like it or not and since Japan's releases only add to what is already being released into the environment as military and industrial pollution minimizing exposure is better than doing nothing during a markedly elevated period such as now. If you feel better about minimizing your exposure you can choose to wear a mask on your flights.

The best we can all do is minimize and continuously monitor our health heading off conditions sooner than later-check out my earlier post on this site addressing how you can be an informed self monitor at http://www.nuc.berkeley.edu/node/3486
