What if those storms actually hit these nuclear plants???

Spent fuel pools and ponds

Spent fuel pools and ponds aren't protected like the reactors. Oh man...

The storms wouldn't really

The storms wouldn't really have to damage the reactors would they? Just knock out external power for a significant length of time, any problem with the generators/batteries and then we are up the same creek as J-pan.

We'd be up the proverbial

We'd be up the proverbial creek.....

Good point

250 mph winds plants would be Fine they say .

F5 261/318mph Strong frame houses lifted off foundations and carried considerable distances to disintegrate; automobile sized missiles fly through the air in excess of 100 meters; trees debarked; steel re-inforced concrete structures badly damaged.

U.S. nuclear power plants are designed for safety from seismic, flood and other natural disasters based on past-recorded historical events. TVA’s nuclear reactor and containment buildings are built to withstand winds from an EF-5, flood levels in excess of any recorded event and earthquakes to the individual plant’s maximum projected seismic event without any release of radioactive materials.

The reactors in Japan

The reactors in Japan weren't actually damaged by the quake/wave, were they?Just the loss of external power and battery\generator damage.

I'm sure if you had asked how safe the plant in Japan was say.. 2 months ago, they would have given this same canned response blah blah historical events blah blah without any release of radioactive materials

SURE HOPE SO!!
