anybody knows about the risks of radiation in contaminated furniture?
Does anybody know what the risks can be from having radiation-contaminated furniture in your home? For instance, furniture from Europe that has been made with local wood, could be contaminated from the Chernobyl disaster. What would the risks be?

Sorry, I realized I did not put my post together very well, but I am very anxious about this, because I own a lot of furniture that comes from Europe, and I am scared now!

Get a Geiger counter and test it. Don't be surprised if you don't find anything. Let us know what you find out.

Thanks for your answer. Why do you think that I would not find anything?
Because if there is
Because if there is radiation from Chernobyl, it will be too small to detect with consumer meters and therefore pose less risk than natural environmental radiation. Unless you are eating the furniture.
Soil leeching of Cesium in particular by plants with strong root systems appears to not be a big factor from what I've read.

somebody will come to test it, but I don't feel comfortable with having this thing in my house. I am scared.

Chill out. Unless your crib was make in Japan after the accident I would not be worried at all. I think you have to worry about from your kid eating the urethane finish or paint off the crib. If it is an older crib then you have a higher chance of exposing them to lead paint.
The crib was not made in
The crib was not made in Japan, but in a country next to Ukraine. The soil over there is still contaminated by the Chernobyl disaster. I wish I would have thought about it when I bought it, but I honestly had completely forgotten about the contamination in that area.

Try to stay calm. If the test shows anything return it and get something else.
Thank you. I have to admit
Thank you. I have to admit it's difficult. The thought that my baby could be contaminated is a painful one!
Have you read anything about this topic? I found an article, and I wish I would have read it before I bought this thing.

what did you find out?
I have the same concerns after buying a crib that was made in Poland. It possibly was made using lumber from Belarus or the Ukraine.
did you get yours tested?
