Real Legacy of Chernobyl

Reality sometimes intrudes on our feeling of victimhood. We (in the US) seem to all want to be victims of Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and now Fukushima. We have a tendency to close our eyes to Science that says we are not victims and will not be adversely impacted. Take a look at this UN (World Health Organization, WHO) report (it's not long) called "Chernobyl’s Legacy: Health, Environmental and Socio-Economic Impacts". http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/releases/2005/pr38/en/index.html The largest detrimental effect from Chernobyl was mental health from stress and anxiety. Not from radiation. Remember while reading, that the American Cancer Society http://www.cancer.org/Research/CancerFactsFigures/CancerFactsFigures/pro... shows that 44% of men and 37% of women will develop serious cancer at some point in their life. Kind of puts it into perspective, doesn't it. By all means, test the food and water, but don't obsess. No levels in the US should be cause for ANY concern. Don't worry, Be happy, and you will live longer.

The WHO report?... what a

The WHO report?... what a joke. That report has been widely discredited by countless epidemiologists. The real number of deaths from Chernobyl caners is astoundingly higher than WHO reports.

The above is a meta-analysis of Chernobyl, finding close to a million victims, so there is a disagreement to the facts at hand. The OP makes a compelling and truthful postulate that fear and anxiety can cause disease, but his one fatal flaw is denying it as an appropriate response to danger--Hence his mantra "Don't worry..." Additionally, since when was it the fault of the Russians to be anxious when they ACTUALLY had a nuclear explosion? His exclusionary reasoning does not hold water, but perhaps he can solve other problems like terrorism, food shortages, etc, with his singing.

Busby?....Busby!

Give me a break, take a look at his history of PEER REVIEWED scientific studies. Can't find it?...There is none. When asked to release actual data used, he refused. He conjured "Cancer Clusters" where there was no evidence they existed. He has never published ANY scientific studies that received Peer Review. Science does not exist as fact without peer review.

Clarification- Legacy of Chernobyl

The 44% and 37% incidence of cancer is overall US population, not related to any incidence of release of man-made radioactivity.

Research what's happened

Research what's happened with cancer rates since the dawn of the nuclear age. Used to be a rare occurrence even in the over-60 set. Look at nuclear testing fallout maps and cancer incidence. Look at Chernobyl fallout and cancer incidence. So-called background radiation keeps going up and all radiation increases cancer risk. Not too hard to connect the dots...

It's odd to blame this on

It's odd to blame this on nuclear fallout alone.

Consider that we all thrive in a carcinogenic soup of pthalates, lead, cadmium, asbestos, pharmaceuticals, stress, air pollution, mercury, formaldehyde, coal tar colors(Like Red 10 and Blue 1), parabens, nitrosamines, PCBs, PVC, polysterene, benzene, acrylamide, fire retardants, preservatives, etc.

Not to mention people are living longer(cancer risk increases with age) and diagnostic tools are constantly improving.

There was no significant

There was no significant "over 60 set" back before the nuclear age. I'm not saying the nuclear age extened life, but we have never had such a proliferation of "elders" as we do today.

It's all about the Evacuation
