[R. Cromack] Finally, some new EPA monitoring data... (April 13)
New posts for rain, there's something interesting though: They're no longer automatically "sorting" by Date Posted. You have to click on the Socrata spreadsheet window and do it manually by clicking on the field title up top. Haven't had time to review the data yet... Gonna start now.
Interesting that they're not "advertising" new data, but it's not like that's evidence of anything one way or the other. I guess we'll find out.
Also -- there's a new Milk Monitoring result, for Reno, Nevada, from a sample collected 3/31. Everything was reported as "ND" (Not Detected). No change from their last Reno sample, collected 03/31 and posted 04/10.
Finally -- new Drinking Water results, also posted 4/13, for Knoxville, TN and Hartford, CT (where I was born, btw. Go Whalers! Er, Huskies!). Samples taken on 4/5 and 4/6, respectively. Once again, they're only reporting I-131 results, with an "ND" for both cities. This is the first reported testing for either city.
More later, I need to look at this and see if there's anything to see here.
Rick Cromack.

OK... Here's what I've come up with, folks...
...Based on the most recent EPA Precipitation Monitoring data.
I'm going to take this by State and City, followed by Date Posted, and referencing Date Sampled / Collected. Only dealing for the moment with locations whose data was updated 4/13. Most recent samples and posting dates toward the top... When I have some sort of trend analysis, I'll mention it.

Okay, folks. Here's my take: Looks like, depending on what part of th country you're in, peak values tended to occur during the period 3/22 through 4/1 -- places farther east, generally, got their "high dose" numbers a little later than the western areas, which makes sense. There's one glaring exception, though: Site K at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which hit its peak (to date) on April 4. And Olympia, Washington, experienced a significant uptick -- better than 40% -- on that same date, over what was measured there only four days before.
I really need to put together a map or something, but I doubt I have the time. The one thing about all this that really nags at me is the I-131. If it's no longer being produced -- and I think that's a load of crap, anyway -- then why aren't levels dropping faster?
Anyway. Anyone else have any thoughts about this?

Hi Rick, Take a look at rain
Hi Rick,
Take a look at rain during those days for each city. More rain more fallout. That is my guess.
Oh, yeah, certainly...
...I was sort of assuming, though, that rainfall / precipitation samples would ONLY be taken on days when actual precipitation was received...
I don't really have time to chase this down on www.weather.com or whatever. I'll just report the information; maybe someone else has time to run this down.

Yes,I am no weather expert,
Yes,I am no weather expert, but every storm is different. Some may draw in more stuff from a higher altitude. The duration of the storm could also play into it.
these data have been up on
these data have been up on the epa site since early this morning. i was actually a little concerned that there was nothing new at all, posted today. also, we just got a ton of rain in PA over the last week. it shouldn't take 2 weeks to find out the data, but i'm expecting that it will. i eagerly await that.
why are they leaving out
why are they leaving out California altogether?
No California?
Well, it really has not been raining that much, at least not in So. Cal.
No conspiracy this time!
I was wondering the same
I was wondering the same thing.
Great work Rick, thanks. If they did do Cali would you take a look for us? Please.
You're Welcome... Let Me Check...
...No, nothing "new" (4/13 or later) for California, not under any of the four categories EPA's providing monitoring data on (Air, Precipitation, Milk, and Tap Water).
Sorry. It IS a bureaucracy. I would expect the BRAWM team to have results up well before anything from the West Coast, frankly.
I'll check back on the EPA site tomorrow.

Rick you're like the
Rick you're like the friendly face welcoming folks into a doctor's office. Thanks for looking at all the stats and posting them. Most of us might be too lazy (or uninformed) to do it ourselves.
Happy to help...
...It's good to be able to feel like you're doing SOMETHING, y'know? The last month, waiting for the sky to fall, I felt so darned helpless... And, you know, I generally just don't play like that. We Type A's need to have something to do, otherwise, we go out of our trees.
Anyway... Hope it's useful. God bless, and take care, now.
