Is there a way to test food/water at home?

Is there a way to test my food/water for radiation. Even something rudimentary. Although i would like a thorough analysis, I imagine that is impossible.

You could get really high-end meters for Alpha/Beta and another for Gamma that measure in Nano-sieverts and do isotope identification.

Like NE Technology/Thermo Electron meters. Expensive beasts.
