motocross and high volume of dirt ingested

Hi guys, I'm concerned about the cesium that is probably in the soil on my land. Due to the fact that when I ride my dirt bike it kicks up large amounts of dust and dirt. Making it easily inhaled. This concerns me enough to want to get my soil tested for contaminants. Is this even possible to test? Any recommendations on who and where I can get my soil tested ?

ingestion

Now if you engaged in a race that required you to live off the land for some period and you were to say regularly snack on THE baby birds fed a diet of bugs that dined on leaves with traces of recent fallout (biomagnification) you might be looking at a medical issue or even two. Motocross is like double-digging the veggie bed on steroids so I just think worry on this is slightly misplaced. Just my understanding of/from what limited facts I have access to. Of course test test test away as a fallout profile is some of what we on the NW Coast are sadly lacking. Please share any results of testing if you do.

What a ridiculous

What a ridiculous comparison, you cannot be serious comparing the inhalation of cesium to a flight across the US. Unbelievable.

Nonsense, you can not

Nonsense, you can not compare ionizing radiation from a flight to ingesting hot particles that never excrete from your body.

Well according to the EPA

Well according to the EPA 1-6 year olds eat more dirt so u have to use a different calculation when examining risk slope factors so your advice is correct in one sense I am sure unmade you cross country calculation correct but risk factors are increased through eating dirt.

See Pg 2-11 direct ingestion of soil

If your six year old is

If your six year old is eating that much dirt then you probably have a bigger problem on your hands than iodine exposure.

understanding motocross

motocross is on a track and we ride two to three times a week while we battle for positions we eat dirt and breath dust. so for five hours a week i am ingesting dirt. i am a racer and when a pack of bikes is riding the dust can become dangerous, let alone if it contains cesium or other byproducts of fukushima.my lungs are filtering it as i go.

if u want to test the worst soil sample i have it

can i send your team a sample of my soil? my mx track has puddles that i believe concentrate the cesium not to mention that it rained for two straight weeks in far northern califfornia, also the water doesn't run off my land its flat so low spots build up rainwater u have to understand my concern? my life is based on living and playing in the dirt no concrete to protect me .i am not here to argue about ingesting cesium vs a airplane flight or a xray the epa has all the info i need on there cesium facts page that i posted. please help i even would be willing to make a donation to uc berkely.

dust

You should probably be more worried about inhaling particulates into your lungs than worrying about cesium. After all, it doesn't sound like you want to change your lifestyle, and whatever is on your property is probably all over the west coast anyway. How about tying a bandanna over your face to reduce particle inhalation?

radionuclides

well yes and no. as i read epa factsheet on radionuclides every single element is worse if inhaled via dust its even worse than eating it check for yourself.. Commonly Encountered Radionuclides
Americium-241
Cesium-137
Cobalt-60
Iodine-129 &-131
Plutonium
Radium
Radon
Strontium-90
Technetium-99
Tritium
Thorium
Uranium

who can test my soil

If cesium-137 contaminated soil becomes air-borne as dust, breathing the dust would result in internal exposure. Because the radiation emitting material is then in the body, leaving the site would not end the exposure.

that and external exposure

external exposure hits the skin first before it gets to vital organs.
chances of a gamma ray hitting dna of a thyroid from external exposure
should be orders of magnitude less since so many cells in the way..
but ingested... might as well be point blank

oranges to oranges

Oh no ! You have committed a moral sin. To not equate external to ingested internal violates the priesthood. You are forever banished.

but what if you are riding a

but what if you are riding a dirt bike while eating a banana while on a cross country flight on a plane full of snakes while getting a CT scan? How much dirt do you have to eat then? How is eating dirt like riding an airplane??

you mean, how is inhaling

you mean, how is inhaling radio active particles like being in an airplane. Why would BRAWM answer the OP's question in such a misinformed manner?

this made me laugh :) I

this made me laugh :) I know, the comparisons are getting crazy, aren't they?
