Can plutonium isotopes still be detected in testing for particles?

Even though the alpha radiation cannot be detected at this time?

Is alpha radiation difficult to detect?

Alpha radiation is

Alpha radiation is essentially an atom that emits a helium nucleus (2 protons/2 neutrons) to reduce excess energy. The alpha particles do not penetrate past the aluminum walls that surround our germanium detector, so we are limited to looking for gamma-rays that are sometimes emitted from the decay products. If one wants to identify plutonium from alpha's, you would need an alpha spectroscopy setup. Here is a good app note from Canberra. Currently we do not have plans to do alpha spectroscopy on these samples.

Is there still a way

Is there still a way to test for plutonium or uranium particles?

Are there other groups doing it?
