Argonne Selects UCBNE Alum and NIB Alum for New Sustainable Energy Start-up Hub

12/20/16 - Chain Reaction Innovations (CRI), a new entrepreneurial start-up hub embedded at Argonna National Laboratory has announced their first cohort of entrepreneurs. CRI aims to provide a supportive and collaborative environment for companies that are innovating sustainable energy and manufacturing.

Justin Whiteley, Ph.D., who graduated from Cal in 2010 with a B.S. in nuclear and mechanical engineering is the CTO and co-founder of Emergy, LLC, a company focused on using brewery waste-water to create anodes for lithium-ion batters, such as those in electric cars.

Ian Hamilton, an alumnus of the Nuclear Innovation Bootcamp: Nuclear Upended (2016 cohort) is the the founder and CEO of Atlas Energy Systems, which is working on a way to "turn high-level radioactive decay products from spent nuclear fuel into a usable energy source via radioisotope plasma generation".
