Where's the Science?
Where's the science? One of the biggest problems with nuclear power, as well as the discussions here, is where is the science.
The scientific community has a message on these matters, but it has not found a voice.
One academic, Professor Bernard L. Cohen of the University of Pittsburgh, while analyzing these issues has this to say:
http://www.phyast.pitt.edu/~blc/book/chapter11.html
The real difficulty with public understanding of the high-level waste problem is that the scientists' viewpoint is not being transmitted to the public. Transmitting information from the scientific community to the public is in the hands of journalists, who have chosen not to transmit on this question. I'd hate to speculate on their motives, but they are doing great damage to our nation. These are the same journalists who constantly trumpet the claim that the government is suppressing information on nuclear energy. What more despicable suppression of information can there be than refusing to transmit the truth about important questions to the public? It's every bit as effective as lying.

Amen!
Amen to Professor Cohen's comment:
What more despicable suppression of information can there be than refusing to transmit the truth about important questions to the public? It's every bit as effective as lying.
suppression of information
Information need not be suppressed to effect the public consent process. A well managed populace need only be NOTIFIED.
Primary to the cause of developing a well managed populace is the education process. Loss of control of the educational process will mean a much more difficult herd management and of course continual control issues.
Early exposure to effective use of science, and the critical roll it plays in modern life is key.
Currently there is a problem with nuclear fission energy in that the tide of news and propaganda is flowing against its continued development and deployment.
Our science is stagnating so a push to develop beyond fission is a good thing. It is going to be a bumpy ride.
