We Don't Know What's Going Wrong, But Don't Worry!

...So. Let's review:
> They have NO IDEA what the cause is;
> Their only response is to take what amounts to a SIX-MONTH STEP BACKWARD in terms of the tactics employed to address the problem, cross their fingers and hope no more leaks occur; and
> There's no guarantee it won't happen at OTHER reactors, since they can't figure out what's actually happening in Number Two.
...But, on the bright side, at least now we can be reasonably confident that there's still SOME core material inside Reactor 2, meaning it hasn't ALL been flushed out into the Pacific Ocean (yet, anyway).
...And they have the nerve to call Fukushima Dai-ichi "stable", in "cold shutdown", and to announce grand plans for long-term decommissioning. Truth be told, it's ALL still guesswork and theory, we're ALL still in the dark, and at the mercy of this radiological monster that continues to writhe and eat away at the depths of what the Japanese press continue to insist on euphemistically terming, "the TROUBLED nuclear plant".

(AP) TOKYO - The Japanese government's worst-case scenario at the height of the nuclear crisis last year warned that tens of millions of people, including Tokyo residents, might need to leave their homes, according to a report obtained by The Associated Press. But fearing widespread panic, officials kept the report secret.

Thanks to those listed
Thanks to those listed sources and others have learned a lot, especially about the nature of fallout, and detected levels stateside (and to some degree, in regions of Japan), but there are some very big questions we do not have answers to, about what is going on onsite, and what will happen next.
In some cases, it's because nobody's talking.
In other cases, it's because nobody on earth knows.
