I still propose heavy solar and wind, hybridized with natural gas for consistency/reliability (like the solar/natural gas farms being developed in Palmdale, CA).
In areas where hydro is an option, the existing hydroelectric works are extremely efficient and completely paid for... leave them in place.

after Fukushima daiichi it is clear to me the ge mark 1 reactors are not safe (23 ge mark 1 operate in USA)!extending theses types of reactors operating permits is simply madness .the cost to phase out and replace these oldest types of reactors will be cost prohibitive.i favor new technology ( reactors)over dated versions ..tdm
Note GE position is since there mark 1 has operated in USA for fourty years safely its a safe design...
