Milk update (7/13/2012)

7/13/2012 (5:40pm): We have posted two milk samples with best-by dates of 6/11 and 7/9 on our milk sample page. In both samples, no Cs-134 or Cs-137 were detected.

Thank you, BRAWM, for your continued US food chain screening for FDNPP released radioisotopes.

Were these last two samples both from the same, "Bay Area organic dairy where the farmers are encouraged to feed their cows local grass," as cited on your UCB Milk Sampling Results page, and where presumably the rest of your milk samples were also obtained?

Thanks

Thanks very much for performing and posting these recent milk samples. I check back on this site once a month or so for updates. Please keep up this important public service!!

Same dairy company

Dear MM,

Yes, those two samples were purchased from the same local dairy company where we have gotten all of our other "store-bought" milk samples. To be clear, our raw milk samples were from other sources.

Could you please let us know where those samples came from?

Thanks,

Thank you. MM

Hmmm.... I'm confused by the previous comment!! I was so happy to see that finally isotopes were no longer detected..wouldnt bioaccumulation be more likely to appear in the meat versus the milk?? I'm figuring the cows have finally finished consuming hay harvested during the Fukushima disaster and now are eating hay no longer contaminated... I will be very excited to see if the next testing results also reveal no isotopes

Tongue in cheek

I believe the first response was "tongue in cheek".

However, your question has a serious answer that many here don't understand about bio-accumulation. You are correct that bio-accumulation would be in the meat and / or milk of a carnivorous animal.

Some believe bio-accumulation happens just because the radioisotope enters the biosphere.

Bio-accumulation happens when carnivore eats carnivore eats carnivore....

That is you have a predator pyramid. The apex predator is essentially eating all the radioisotopes taken in by the lowest prey animals on the pyramid.

That's how you get bio-accumulation.

Of course, cows are not apex predators; they eat the plant materials; so there's no bio-accumulation in the milk of cows. The radioisotopes that may be in the milk of a cow are only those radioisotopes in the grass that the cow ate.

Given that we are 16 months after the accident, and BRAWM shows that the milk is not contaminated, we can expect that future measurements by BRAWM will show that the milk is not contaminated.

Lying Liars

What is GAINED by a WILLFUL lie, such as the above?

Clearly this dipsht is aware of the technology, but deliberately misrepresents ... the obvious.

There is apparently not a word of truth in the ENTIRE nuclear power industry.

They lie, when the truth is easier. They lie when NOTHING is gained. !

Beats the hail outta me. Lying for advantage is, at least rational.

Not so, lying when it costs you. That is an irrational activity.

Bioaccumulation versus Biomagnification

Bioaccumulation occurs when the rate of accumulation of a substance in an organism is greater than the rate of elimination. An animal does not need to eat another organism. Many toxins accumulate in fatty tissues of an animal, so cows tend to be more likely to retain a toxin than grass.

Biomagnification meets the definition of increasing of a substance as you go up the food chain.

Oh no!

Where's all the bio-accumulation we were promised?

Nippon

NW Pacific

The bio-accumulation is quite evident in Japan and the NW Pacific Ocean.
