Is Las Vegas the safest spot in the United States?

I vaguely remember from some earth science class that the wind from the equator falls down and forms a shield somewhere north around vegas, thus creating the desert climate. This might be why readings in vegas have been near zero and the sierra nevada's up north got blasted. Vegas is also surrounded by a bowl of mountains. Not much fallout rain to worry about. I live here and never had a metallic taste or anything abnormal.

Las Vegas has long been 'glow-in-the-dark ... HOT.

American Samoa is probably the lowest radioactivity location in the USA.

I lived in LV for a while. NTS is less than 100 miles away, and I always dreaded windy days.

Google "non critical nuclear test". Yeah. That's the ultimate hot particle generator.

IMHO, fallout from Fukushima is much less of a danger than living close to NTS. My 2 cents...

lol whatever you say guys,

lol whatever you say guys, did those tests from 50 years ago use Mox fuel? Comparing the real side effects seen so far in Japan I hardly believe the test site is much more than a hair on a rats ball sack now.

EPA did more in 86/

Intresting I have no idea About shielding but EPA air filter data Indicates Vegas was not spared in the least bit .one thing of major intrest I note is there was more air filter testing post chernoble than post Fukushima for this location .seems very odd that there was much more aggressive testing after chernoble.

Yes, Vegas, with it's dry

Yes, Vegas, with it's dry climate, has done a lot better than places with rain. In addition, when the clouds rise up into the upper atmosphere and flatten out into hammerheads ie... in the High Sierra and Midwest and the East coast ranges, this increases pollution interface, increasing the rain-out. The one big if in LV is food supply, as the most dangerous exposure is ingested.
As the NPP's post the required environmental monitoring assessments for 2011 with the NRC, we all will get a better picture as to the extent of Fukushima's footprint on America.
Thank goodness to Berkeley for the on-going testing, it is timely and kindly reassuring.
